    Re: Future of Nagy

I know Nagy has always thought about going back to Illinois but if he actually was in the mix for this position it would be almost impossible to turn down. He'd make at a minimum 700k plus take over a team that could very easily win 2 tourny games next year. It will be interesting to see what happens or if Nagy actually was indeed contacted.

      Nagy is under contract.
It is my understanding, that the AD's will notify a coach if they are going to get their contract renewed after the season of their sport. If the football coach is going to get canned, he will be notified after the season that yes he will be retained, or no that he will not. The contract is then issued shortly before the period, I'm sure they have their lawyer/agent look it over and then they sign it on the date.

I believe Illinois hired the coach from Ohio U.

Exactly, let's look at my original hypothetical case with contracts running April 1st to March 31st. If Nagy was not under contract, he would either a) Be on unpaid vaction since Saturday. or b) Be working without a contract.

So to answer Huskonbison's questions whether Nagy is under contract. No question Nagy is currently under contract. Doesn't even remotely make sense that he wouldn't be.

This is my understanding as well, but I get Montana Jack's point about another contract being in place particularily when a coach is doing a good job as Nagy has done this past year.

              Re: Future of Nagy

Individuals at SDSU who are on 12 month contracts, primarily administrators and individuals who are not faculty are on 12 month contracts running from June 22 of one year to June 21 of the following year. People on 9 month contracts, most faculty, are on contract from August 22 to May 21. There are a few 10 month contracts that run from August to June. Salary increases take effect with the first paycheck after June 22nd, that is the end of july for 12 month people and the end of September for 9 month people. People on campus are paid once a month on the last working day of the month for the preceding 22nd of the previous month to the 21st current month work period. Coaches, I would expect to be on 12 month contracts.

Wow BillingsBoy, nice to feel welcomed... jeez.

Point being, have you ever heard of 9 or 10 month contracts (nvm, I see rabbit74 acknowledged this)? Or if his contract ended after the season (as in your example), perhaps he wouldn't/hasn't signed it due to pay (expecting a bit of a raise due to making the tourney) or the looks he's getting by other schools. One would assume he's under contract, but like I said in my original post I was trying to avoid assuming, and due to the nature of the one year contract, I'm just saying its a possibility... ya know, for discussion purposes...

                    Re: Future of Nagy

Yea their are 9 or 10 month contracts on the academic side of the house. I have never heard of a 9 or 10 month contract on the athletic side. A one year contract is not ideal, but it is a one year contract, going to have to go with Montana on this one.

I think Nagy is a great coach, but would love to see him get one of these jobs if he wants it. I think he may not be as opportunistic as Miles, but he is every bit of a coach that he is and then some. I also think it would be good for the program to have a new and different voice at some point. That could be Austin or someone else...

You wanted a discussion and I pointed out why there is no logic to your suggestion that he would not be under contract.

And if he was holding out right now for more money (re: my hypothetical scenario) he would be working right now without a contract because they have been recruiting.

I think Nagy would stick for the next year, or even the next few.....kids in school and all that.....it would be so difficult to take your kids or even split time between Colorado and South Dakota until the kids graduate. He's been there 17 years! That's roots my friends, and they don't pull out easy.......
