Enjoy and celebrate what was a historic season.
I will be totally honest in agreeing to disagree. After viewing the Baylor roster, I did not think we had a chance and at various points in the game we seemed to shine. Talent wise, we were as Charles Barkley said out matched, but Baylor for all its talent did not play well as a team or as a unit. If I were a Baylor fan, I would be upset with the playing. Barkley also commented that Baylor has a tendency to take the night off, and according to Sir Charles, last night was one of those times.

Barkley doesn't believe half of what he is saying sometimes and he has this amazing ability to contradict himself within a single thought. So I would counsel against taking him any more seriously than he takes himself (although his line about those awful Baylor uniforms was probably the line of the night - that and the studio guy's "highlighters" reference).

Bottom line: We could have won this game. We have talented players; that's just a crock for him or any other analyst to imply that somehow Baylor was toying with us or put out just enough effort to win. I bet they didn't feel that way with a minute left. We deserved not just to be there, but to win.

One of our obstacles as fans is getting over this idea that we don't EXPECT to win these kind of games, and so losses against "traditional" powers, whoever they are, are rationalized as "we gave it a good try, just wasn't meant to be." This separates our fan base from the NDSU fan base. Part of being a D-1 program is believing you are a D-1 program and that no so-called big dog, small dog or mid-major dog has any more right to win a game than you do. These guys were from Waco, Tx., for crying out loud. Ever been there? Who anointed that place as the center of the basketball universe?

I will concede nothing and won't engage in the "just glad to be here" syndrome. Jacks are no longer a D-II program in transition gazing at the bright lights. Jacks are D-I.

Not the case, Joe. Stu Whitney's article in this morning's Argus Leader is well done and I encourage everyone to read it.

SDSU MBB team is a reflection of this (SD) area. It is a collection of very good, but rarely NBA quality players. They can outshine a collection of individually superior playerz (and yes the z is intentional) only by playing great team ball. TEAM ball is what kept the Jacks in the game last night. That cohesive, unselfish, best buddies play by the Jacks is their trait. With it, Jacks can go far, and challenge every team to the wire. Without it, Jacks will consistently be out-manned by the superiorly funded, BCS level schools.

Jacks played well, and did a fabulous job on PJIII. Even the BaylorFans.com crowd commented on the team play, and that Wolters could flat out ball.

Griff gave his all. Blocking the 6'11' center's 5 fter will be a great memory for Griff. He will be missed. That wolverine swagger, and lock down D won't get any NBA looks, but made a tremendous difference for the Jacks this season.

And not in a bad way, IMO.

I don't care what we as fans think of Baylor. We don't play them. SDSU plays them. I want the players to walk onto the court expecting to win.

But when fans conflate their identities with their team's identity, and when they start acting as though they are superior because their team is capable of scoring more points in a child's game played according to fixed and more or less arbitrary rules, then we've got problems.

            --

As far as I'm concerned, SDSU acquitted themselves admirably yesterday. Baylor won that game only because they scored more points than SDSU--in no way, other than the final score, did they prove themselves superior to SDSU. And I'm not selectively applying that logic either. WIU was every bit as good as SDSU last Tuesday, but SDSU scored more points and therefore won the game.

First of all congrats to the Rabbits on a good season and decent showing in the Big Dance.

However, I think the best description of last nights game is "Missed Opportunity".

You were in position to pull off the upset, but missed some shots you were definitely capable of knocking down and also had some uncharacteristic turnovers from Wolters.

But I think the biggest missed opportunity was to potential for additional exposure for the SDSU program. Making the tournament has provided SDSU a lot of exposure, but that exposure pails in comparison what you could have received by reaching the Sweet 16 round. With Colorado upsetting UNLV last night, the Jacks would have been in prime position to do so.

Congrats again on a good season.

Great post, agree on Barkley, on how we should have won and how we as fans should expect a win and not settle for less. I am proud how we did but the game was there for the taking. and yes we are talented. as a team almost shooting 40% on 3s, Wolters etc.

Barkley does a very poor job and I suspect he won't be asked back.

Jackrabbits could have won that game and would compete with Baylor on a night-in and night-out bases. To suggest otherwise indicates a degree of ignorance that isn't acceptable for an supposed analyst. When he starts talking I tune out or turn the channel.

I like Barkley with the NBA; he is superb. He is alright with the NCAA, I just don't think he meshes that well with the other people around him. They really don't know how to handle him.

Boy did I stir up some sh*t with the Sir Charles's comments. As far as judging talent, Sir Charles should be able to judge since he spent a career in the NBA. Our guys are gritty and give all they got but when you got 6'11 guys to defend, its not easy. Some how I dont think we are there yet in terms of talent. Thats my honest opinion and I will leave it at that. It takes more than some hot shot from Castlewood. This is the Big Dance after all.

Two All-Big Twelve posts combined to score all of 6 points against SDSU. I don't think they need much more than what they've got. One more player in the rotation is all it would've taken, IMO.
