Wouldn't consider any of those three really big names when it comes to women's basketball. To be honest I had forgotten we hosted Indiana and I was at the game, but I remembered the other two.

You can argue Indiana is a big name because of it's men's basketball tradition, but Illinois State and Creighton are far from big names.

My point is I think Frost will sell out if we host an NIT game.

Thanks for pointing out the fact you remember more than I about our WNIT trips.

In the NIT an NCAA event or is it run like the WNIT? Seem to remember that we really didn't make any money on the WNIT because all of the money went to the bid to buy the home game.

NIT is owned by the NCAA. WNIT is owned by Triple Crown Sports, I believe.

I believe the NCAA purchased the men's NIT about 4-5 years ago.

SDSU's RPI as of today is 61 so the Jacks are definitely in the mix for the NIT they don't win the Summit League tournament (if they don't stub their toes, that is).
I am in error here. NIT does invite the conference regular-season champion, if that team does not make the NCAA Tournament field.

Absolutly not. Playing in an empty arena in the NCAA is better for the program than playing in the NIT.

I know these are just projections, so this may not be the case, but hypothetical question: Would this scenario be potentailly better for the program, player experience, and fan experience than a 1 and done showing in the NCAA's in a regional out west or out east?

Going to the NCAA tournament is hands down better for the program. Just because 20-30 years from now when you look through the program and it says NCAA tournament it looks better than NIT tournament. Also looks better for recruiting. However playing a NIT game at a sold out place against a real team wouldn't be horrible

Anyone know (er, want to research!) what the first round games averaged for attendance in the NIT the last few years?
This will give you an idea. For the most part, attendance is not good in the NIT.

I think it depends on who plays who much of the time as well. If there is a big name school going to a smaller school the attendance is generally pretty nice. I know Witchita State packed their building a few times. I don't think SDSU would have a problem selling out the place if it was a big name school or if ESPN was there. Now if its a McNeese State and its a none ESPN game. Then it would be a different story, though I still think they'd have good attendance #'s
