However, I think some on this board will continue to think Nate belongs in the NBA even if he gets cut and spends the rest of his time in the D-League and/or Europe. That's the position I have a problem with.

Are the T-Wolves thinking of drafting him only as a replacement for Ridnour, or is there a little local kid/sell tickets at play here? If this happens, a T-wolves pre-season game at the Arena would be packed!

I think it is a little amusing to use "good enough" as the standard by which a player makes a roster, then turn around and ask if Wolters could make the Timberwolves due to expected ticket revenue. Simply asking the question shows an understanding that a better player could be left off the Timberwolves roster due to circumstances beyond his control or ability.

There are players in Europe and the D-League who are good enough to play in the NBA but aren't for a bunch of different reasons.

I have no idea if Nate will play in the NBA, but I hope he does.

Left off the Timberwolves roster? Yes. Left off of the rosters of the 29 other NBA teams? No.

You sound like someone who has excuses at the ready in case Nate doesn't make it. In fact, it sounds like you have "a bunch of different reasons". I did mention that I'm good enough to play in the Masters, but didn't get an invite, right?

      I will agree to disagree.

Wowser. Try to follow the logic.

Hypothetically, the guy Nate bumps ends up on New York's roster. Except now, somebody else who would have been deserving gets bumped from the Knicks. And on down the line until somebody who was good enough to play in the NBA ends up in Europe.

I wasn't getting excuses ready for if Nate doesn't make the NBA. I was simply pointing out how absurd it is to think the NBA is filled with ONLY THE BEST, and there aren't any European league or D-League players who would be on an NBA roster had circumstances been different.

              You are reinforcing my point.

Your example puts a guy in Europe because he gets bumped out of the NBA by BETTER PLAYERS.

How is it logical to think a guy belongs in the NBA when he ends up in Europe because he can't keep his spot on a roster?

I'm sorry, but it's your logic I can't follow. Notice you used the words "deserving" and "circumstances" in your post. You seem to be stuck on your opinion that Nate belongs in the NBA, even if he gets cut or released. I trust that if Nate's agent can't find him a home in the NBA, then he isn't an upgrade over any other player in the league, which is the main disagreement between you and I. You claim that if Nate ends up in Europe or somewhere else, he deserves to be in the NBA but can't get there because of "circumstances".

Terry V. linked another mock draft that had Nate going to the Lakers with the 46th pick. http://nbaprospects.blogspot.com/p/2....html?spref=tw

From the same NBA blogspotter as Terry V.'s link above.

                  http://nbaprospects.blogspot.com/sea...Nate%20Wolters

                  Nate Wolters
actually did an admirably job facing Trey Burke, especially considering the level of point guards he is used to guard. Wolters showed that he wasn't shaken by the competition and he fought to the very end. He didn't get many shots to fall and had some trouble with bigger defenders like Tim Hardaway Jr and Glenn Robinson III, but who wouldn't? What Wolters did remind scouts is that his IQ will always be great no matter what the competition is like and he used that IQ to overcome what he lacked in athleticism. He did a fine job helping contain Trey Burke by keeping him in front of him and forcing Burke to drive where Wolters knew he had help defenders. Wolters also was still able to set up shots for teammates with nice passes and even better execution. Did Wolters turn into a national hero by beating Michigan? No. But is he still very much on the radar of scouts? Of course.

No, under the hypothetical situation where the Twolves put Nate on the roster to sell tickets, a better player ends up in Europe.

Let's take Nate out of the equation since that seems to be a stickler.

-Player A takes the last roster spot on NBA Team 1 because he is a local favorite and will sell boatloads of tickets.

-Player B, who is more talented than Player A, ends up with NBA Team 2.

-Player C, who is also more talented than Player A, ends up with NBA Team 3.

                    ...

-Player Z, who is also more talented than Player A, finds no NBA roster spots remaining. His only options are to play in Europe or the D-League. Or sell State Farm (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I don't think I've ever stated that I think Nate belongs in the NBA.

I think that Nate's work ethic almost works against him for the draft because the scouts see think of it as a lowered ceiling rather than this guy can learn how to do anything we ask of him. Like raise your 3point percentage by 15 points in one off season. I think he will be more athletic in the NBA just by willing himself to be so.
