I believe this is Zach Horstman's dad,not Mr. Monaghan.

Yeah that just dawned on me and I was about delete my post. With two Zach's on the team it easy to get confused and I am glad we have both Zach's as they are both assets to the team.

I think Jones can take credit for what has been accompolished so far. As far as not showing up for the press conference, I would not feel good after being whipped by 40 pts either and he has a choice to show or not show.
Well, actually, didn't one of our key players transfer from UND?

I referenced Griff Callahan in another post and I also mention that Griff was quoted that Griff and coach Jones had a relationship of mutual respect. Why Griff orignally chose UND over SDSU only Griff could answer. I think there was something about not having a scholarship available at SDSU. Its history now. I think we will see a better UND team in GF. Most transition teams win at home or play better at home. I would hope for a 15 pt win by SDSU.

I don't mean it as a slight to past UND teams, but hockey is still #1 at that school. It isn't basketball's fault. Hockey has has a longer tenure in Division One and has had success.

Yes from that stand point, you are correct, but their bb following is as good as ours when they are hitting on all 8 cylinders. Granted there is not much to be cheering about right now.

Yes, Hockey is king up there. A couple of years ago they had a Basketball Marketing video that put the BBall players on ice. Talk about awkward.

I will say that UND has some athletic, quick guards that can handle the ball. But, as one of my UND alum friends pointed out, they just don't seem to have the full team concept put into place yet. That, and their big men were unimpressive. Hate to see that kind of height wasted at this point. But, I could see that team giving teams in the Big Sky trouble.

You believe the latter.....I hope for the teams sake on Thursday they believe the first one or it could be an ugly, embarrassing surprise.

I believe we saw UND at their worst. They shot poorly, got down, and gave up. I expect this to be a battle in GF. I've seen this before, back in the NCC days, we handily beat teams at home and lost on the road. Don't get overconfident.

I listened to Nagy after the game on the radio and he said that he didn't want his team to play that way. He said that he apologized to the UND coach after the game. I think we all know how I feel about it. I said that Prince shouldn't have scored against MSUM when we were up 11 with 2 seconds left.
I know that if I was playing against us, I would hack the guy hard so that shot doesn't get up near the rim. Don't try to injure a guy but that shot doesn't get up at all. I'm not talking about pushing or anything(dirty) like that but punch down on either the ball or arm as hard as I can. When I was in high school our scrubs(me) came in at the end of a game. Our coach told us to make sure they didn't get any easy baskets. A player made a ball fake and I jumped, he was going up for a dunk and I came down hard on him. I almost got kicked out of the game but it was just a hard foul. I was going down and he was going up. Nobody got hurt but the ball went down instead of up.
I'm don't remember the end but I think they were making sure they played until the game was over. The 3 ticked them off so they wanted to make sure the finished the game. If we aren't running the clock out with 40 seconds left, are we going to run it out with 5 seconds left?

The shot taken by Monaghan with 40 seconds left, the shot clock was involved. Somebody was going to have to take a shot no matter what. Should he have taken a few steps in so it was a 2-pointer and not a 3-pointer? He had the open look and took it.

The second situation when Prince had the ball and the UND player was jabbing at it, the shot clock was turned off. So yes the Jacks were running out the clock.

Summation for people that think tl;dr: trying to continue to play a normal basketball game and score = bad. Hacking the other team and possibly risking injury = good.

This entire thing is a little overblown. UND's coach probably overreacted a little bit and I'd bet that he'd be the first to tell you that. It was a FRESHMAN kid taking a shot in the last minute of a game and it's not like he plays a ton of minutes. I find nothing wrong with it. Let them play because that's all they were doing.

As for Nagy, he was just doing the politically correct thing by saying something to the UND coach and publicly in the post-game presser. I bet he hasn't thought about it since.
