I thought there was a rule now that it had to be a catch and shoot in one motion with say 7/10 of a second left. That way the hometown timer couldnt cheat.

Nagy noted that they planned in advance if Chad had missed his first free throw at the end, he would have missed the second one so that WIU would have to fight for the rebound etc. rather than have the clock stopped and take in in-bounds. But, since he hit the first...and the second...that won the game.

Yeah I wonder if nagy will switch back to white starting soon. Hope dykstra is able to start soon. Horstman I think s going to be looking for more playing time.

Southwest in Frost Tuesday...I think we have to drive down for that one and welcome these boys back. I sure hope a big crowd is there.

Amen. The league is definitely getting better top to bottom. Still time for some OOC marquee upsets before conference play resumes.

I am sure there is this rule. I suppose too, that once the ball is in the air, it does not matter when the buzzer is sounded. The ref can still call the shot good or no good. Seems like we got hosed on this type of play once before. It was either WIU or SUU where it happened. Many years ago, I saw my one and only game at K-state against Minnesota. Seems like the timer really screwed it up as he allowed the K state player at least 10 seconds to get his shot off which was not good, but Clem Haskins when bullisitic at the scoring table.

All I will say is I hope we don't play zone defense the rest of the year. Unless you have some trees inside, it's hard to rebound out of it because getting everyone boxed out is nearly impossible.

In the NBA, if there is less than 3 tenths left the shot must be a tip in, but greater than 3 tenths you can catch and shoot.

"There are references to a scoreboard and time keeping only in passing in the official NBA rules. A good example of this is called the Tucker rule, so named for former New York Knick Trent Tucker. Tucker took an inbound pass and scored the winning basket with one-tenth of a second remaining in the game. Later tests determined it was impossible to inbound a pass and make a shot in less than three-tenths of a second.

The relevance is that there must be a way to measure tenths of seconds which implies the scoreboard clock measures the game time down to the tenths of a second. The Tucker rule, implemented after the 1989-1990 season, doesn't permit an inbounded shot to count with three-tenths of a second or less remaining in the game."

Looks like Western Illinois is improved.

I think in years previous that is a game that they lose.

I think fatigue was starting to show, sounded like many flat shots, front rim shots, etc.

Just tuning in...sounds like it was a tough one but wow, great to have two tough road wins in the pocket. What is great about this is the two wins came in two different styles of games. But if this WIU team plays defense like it looks like they can they will win some games in this league.

All of this is correct and the same rule is in college basketball.

                                Rule 5, Section 7, Article 4
"In any period, when the game clock displays 10ths of seconds and play is to be resumed by a throw-in or a free throw when 3/10 (.3) of a second or less remains on the game clock, a player may not gain possession of the ball and try for a field goal. Such player can only score a field goal by means of a tap of the pass or of a missed free throw."
