    Re: Fall Practice

The problem with choosing a preseason favorite is the conclusion is based mostly off information gathered from the previous season (win/lose record, returning players), with the rest being projection based off the affect of losing a player(s)' production has on the team, the ability of the current roster to pick up/exceed the lost production, and development of certain players on the current roster.

History generally is a safer bet than projections, as it means there are less questions going into the season. Oral Roberts has less questions going into the season because they basically return all their starters plus a productive player they lost early in the previous year due to injury, while the Jacks were young and should no doubt improve, but at the same time they lose their 2nd leading scorer and one of there best defenders/energy guys. As much talent as I believe the Jacks have on the roster, how much these young players develop is hard to predict, and for this reason, I'd have to go with the more proven Oral Roberts as my preseason favorite if I want to be objective. That said, I won't be in the least surprised if the Jacks win it, I just have less evidence supporting that theory.

What I was trying to say, but much more eloquently put. Agreed with everything here, especially the last line.

This thread reads like it should be on an ORU fan board. Let's get over our insecurity, as Jacks fans, and accept the belief that SDSU should be good this year. No apology to ORU or any other team is necessary.

I don't think anyone is saying that we won't be good. If you are reading the comments that way, it only speaks to your own insecurities or comprehension skills.

I'm just kidding, but seriously, no one has said we won't be good. I know all of my posts were just try to put the target on ORU's back. It's easier that way for us. See: Heat, Miami and Eagles, Philadelphia

Agreed^^^. We need to change the attitude and culture around here. We need to be coming into every season thinking that we should at least make it to every Summit tourney final or its a dissapointment if we have a team like this. Tired of heat being an example of why not to call yourself a dream team. They made it to the finals in their first year together. How is that not impressive

Totally agree. With everything. I'm more of an ORU fan anyway as you can tell by my posts.

                  Go LeBron.

                  Chaaaaange the culture.

                    Re: Fall Practice

Who cares about ORU.... I want updates about who improved over the summer, how the freshman are looking, who will prolly redshirt. Is there any injuries. That type of news not whether or not ORU should be the favorites or not.

Horrible sarcasm. I'm not saying you are an ORU fan. I'm saying we should demand excellence not say Ohh we might do well this year we are not the favorites. Rex grossman said that they would win the division an they are 3-1 and 1st in division. Suh said the lions have a good chance of going 16-0 and they are now 5-0. Demand and expect excellence and good things happen

I do not even know what you are saying at this point.

You lost me at Rex Grossman. Didn't he have Oakland as a favorite? In the AFC West? Or was it the Summit League?

Seriously, I am so bad at sarcasm.

Really, though, I have no idea how we got from ORU should probably be considered the favorite to Rex Grossman or demanding excellence.

To conclude: Ohh we might do well this year we are not the favorites.

                          Re: Fall Practice

I can't wait until Nov. 3 that first game when we can see what our team looks like. We added 7 freshman and one sophmore to the roster so it will be interesting to see who rized to the top and will get playing time. I had heard that Jacobsen had knee surgery in the off season and will probably be red shirted. I wonder how the international players are going to fit into our huge supply of guards.

Second-hand info, FWIW, is that the coaches would be very pleased if they are able to redshirt most or all of the freshmen this year. Since, in most years, it finally boils down to a seven or eight person rotation, that might just be possible.

For a refresher, who is the sophomore?

And I think we will be able to redshirt a few freshman, but definitely not all of them, unfortunately.

The sophmore is Austin Hennings a 6'6 forward transfered from Nazarene in Olath, Kansas.
