The Heat may turn into a great team but I don't know about a dream team. The Olympic team was the dream team and they won it all. They didn't just beat teams, they killed them and the other teams just wanted autographs afterwards.
The Celtics added Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen in 2007-2008 and won it all their 1st year together. They were a highly talked about team but they didn't have 1 hour ESPN specials about how they dissed their previous teams.
The Heat should be better than the Celtice but I won't call them the dream team. They were an impressive team last year but not good enough to win it all.

I think SDSU should make the Summit tourney final. I don't know if I've seen anybody say that they wont. I just don't know how you can take a team that lost twice to a team and lost 2 starters and say that they are better than the team that beat them and returns everybody. I think SDSU can win it all but if I had to bet, I'd take ORU. I could be wrong with this but I guess we can see how other people think when the preseason polls come out. (Or have they came out already?).

Pre-season favorites are not pre- season gauranteed conference champs,it's just peoples educated guess. It can turn out that way,or not.

I would think that is a likely scenario,as 12 of the 16 players on the roster are listed as guards. There isn't much of a chance that many of them will see a lot of playing time - especially considering the number of minutes that Nate gets at the point.

I think it is expected that all of the walk-on freshman will redshirt for sure. Jacobsen played his senior year (actually pretty much his entire hs career) with an injury(s). It is my understanding that the coaches knew he would need knee surgery. They are hoping he will get bigger (and healthy) and could contribute in the future.

When it comes to redshirting Nagy has always been a type of guy who won't redshirt a guy based on need. He may pull one, but if a guy is ready he plays him. So it will be interesting to see how those decisions are made.

              Re: Fall Practice

I always hate the pre-season prognostications.

Oakland was the regular season and tourney champs last year. For my money, until someone knocks them off the perch they are the team to beat.

There are going to be a few teams capable of doing that which the Jacks are one of them. ORU? BorRU! Is there anything more fun than beating Scott Sutton?

The Jacks should be a blast to watch! Lots of returning talent including probably the best player in the conference. Hard to believe only a few weeks away!

Say a little prayer everyone gets into the season healthy!

              SUPERBUNNY
              MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, BIZUN!!!

You would think that Horstman would have the best chance to see more minutes because of his size and leaping ability.

And yet I think Horstman could be the one that benefits the most from a redshirt. Kid is SKINNY.

I don't think many programs redshirt players very often in basketball, except in cases where injuries are going to prohibbit them from playing anyway. If the kid can contribute, they should be ready to play - even if only situational, or for a few minutes a game. Marcus didn't get a lot of minutes last year, and maybe could have just redshirted, but I think the few minutes he got last year will pay off big time this year.

As far as him being injured JackMD as well as others on this board mentioned that he was injured both his jr. and sr. year. However that was his shoulder which I knew he had hurt playing football. I was told by 2 former high school coaches that if he hadn't played football he would have been a D-I (scholarship) player, because he played his jr. and sr. year with injuries that occurred during football.

As far as the knee, it was my understanding during the season that year that he was going to need knee surgery. Whether that information was wrong, or things have changed since I don't know. I just figured that if I had heard about it the coaches would have.

I don't know Cory, and if you have more insight please feel free to state it.

I think it's critical for SDSU to get to the point where we can red shirt nearly all incoming freshman. In the DII Nagy did this almost exclusively and it worked well. Being a mid-major, experience wins and the experience of fifth years seniors is critical.

A reliable friend who talked to one of the assistant coaches...as I said, FWIW. I do believe Nagy would like to redshirt a strong freshman class (minus 1 or 2 players at the most) if it would work out. It worked out for NDSU if you will remember.

                            Re: Fall Practice

The down side of redshirting is that it can tie up a scholie and bench seat for five years rather than four. So, long term, a team doesn't cycle through as many good athletes (which I guess can be good or bad). The very top level NCAA teams don't seem to redshirt recruits very often. Of course, they're landing top athletes who often don't need much development time and might bail for the NBA after a year or two.

To say that he played his entire hs career with injury is an exaggeration. I would say only his sr season was affected much by the knee and shoulder injuries suffered during the football season (and had little effect on him by the end of the season). The problem with the knee that required surgery was not discovered until after the basketball season was over and I don't believe it had any impact during the year. I find it hard to believe the coaches want Cory to get bigger- Coach Hansen said that his body was college ready as a sophomore.
Jacks #1 I wasn't questioning what you said.

The top level teams are getting the very best....kids that most likely won't stay four years. We aren't in the upper echelon and likely never will be. I don't have any data to back it up, but I believe that most of the successful mid-majors have one thing in common......experience. I know when George Mason had their run several years ago, they had a experience. Not sure how many had red-shirted.

Nagy red-shirted almost everyone back in the DII days and he was very successful. I believe experience had a lot to do with that success. Now, I don't know if that model can be successful at the DI level. There may be more competition for recruits and telling a HS kid he is going to red-shirt may hurt recruiting.

I still believe there is no such thing as too much experience.
