Re: Nagy a finalst for Northern Illinois

Part of me is happy for Nagy possibly getting back to his home state.

The other part of me really hates the possibility of him leaving after finally having some success here at the DI level.

One of the other finalists is Ray Geocoletti, who once coached the NDSU Bison before he went to Eastern Washington, I believe. He has head coaching experience so hopefully Ray is their guy.

That will be my evening prayer, may UNI pick Geocoletti or some of the other finalists and leave Nagy here in Brookings. I am being selfish, but do wish Coach Nagy the best if he is selected and accepts the new job. I think this time its very serious, and not an outside shot as it was a few years back with the Bradley job.

Nope Bradley, but they had a longer list of finalists and Nagy was the only the D-2 candidate and never even got an interview, though he made a trip to Peoria. I remember monitoring a message board tied to the Peoria Newspaper and the fans did not even know or care about Nagy as a choice, but times have changed.

Him or Indiana's assistant (Tim Buckley) would be my guess. Indiana has struggled the past few years but they have some nice recruiting classes both this year and next.

I don't trust the source yet. All it says is that he was contacted. If he goes for an interview than people can start speculating a little more.

                  isn't Bradly in Illinois?

I just remember it briefly and my guess is that during Terry's live chat tonight and the Argus tomorrow we will find more out. I do think both he is serious about leaving and that they are interested. You don't leak a name to ChicagoESPN unless they are serious about the guy.

Bradley is indeed in Peoria Illinois, not far from McComb, home of WIU. Really old and off topic, but our friends in Vermillion, USD beat Bradley when they were rated No 1, right after WWII, 1947 I think.

From reading both the report and what the argus had on the issue the way it looks to me is that Northern Illinois hired an outside firm to look into qualified people who they believed would fit.

They contacted Nagy or his agent if he has one. And Nagy said he wasn't not interest (yes I know thats a double negative).

Then they took the list to the school and he was one of the names out of the firm that made the list to target.

I hope he doesn't leave, but either way I hope it doesn't take long to figure out. Nagy was out recruiting this past week and my guess is he will continue to be recruiting and its hard to recruit when your name is popping up for other jobs.

There you go, to all those idiots that want to see him gone......I hope it isn't so...but if it is...I hope he stops by the Argus Leader on his way out of the state and assures Stu that no matter where he goes...he's serious. I really hope he sees through the B.S. of some people and that in general State fans really appreciate him.

                        P.S. I'm showing a lot of hope.

Re: Nagy a finalst for Northern Illinois

Looking at the ESPN article,it appears the other 3 coaches might have stronger resumes. The two Big Ten assistants have had success recruiting the Chicago area, which you think would be a must for Northern Illinois, and the Gonzaga assistant has more head coaching experience in bigger programs like Utah.

I corrected the misleading thread title from "Nagy a finalist. . . " (which he is not, from any story posted until now on the thread) to the more accurate "Nagy contacted . . ."
                              "I think we'll be OK"

SDSU fans had better get used to this, in any season where SDSU has any decent success in men's basketball. There are lots and lots of really hungry, bordering on desperate, schools out there who are willing to take a run at anyone who might be able to "turn things around."

                                This isn't "woah," not yet.

                                "Hmmm," maybe. Not "Woah."
