    Re: 2005-06 schedule

Like Filbert said wow!! The schedule looks great this year. 8) I am excited to see how the 2005-6 team does this year. Jack fans need to get back to Frost and support the men. I know are family will make more trips to Brookings to see the Rabbits. Now if only Matt Jones would come back this year.

A quick story coming out of Kentucky.  Here is a link and highlights.

Guardians Classic spices Cats' early schedule

        By Michael Smith
        mssmith@courier-journal.com
        The Courier-Journal

The University of Kentucky men's basketball schedule will have a familiar look in 2005-06 with non-conference games against the Wildcats' two fiercest rivals, Louisville and Indiana, as well as defending national champion North Carolina and Kansas -- all teams they played last season.

The one major addition to UK's non-conference schedule, which it released yesterday, is the Guardians Classic, an exempt event that probably will pit the Wildcats in a final four with West Virginia, Texas and Iowa in Kansas City.

The Cats will open the tournament and the regular season Nov. 13 against South Dakota State in Rupp Arena. If they win that one, they'll host the Lipscomb-Wofford survivor the next night, with the winner advancing to Kansas City for the semifinals and finals Nov. 21-22.

"It's another challenging nonconference schedule," coach Tubby Smith said in the release. "We're playing the second-winningest program of all time in North Carolina, the third-winningest in Kansas, plus Indiana and Louisville. Then there's the possibility of playing two games against Texas, Iowa or West Virginia if we advance far enough in the Guardians Classic."  .  .  .

Nice to be in the same story with all those other schools! 8)

        Go State!  ;D

          Re: 2005-06 schedule

In a "glass-half-full" situation that is this website (aside from the UNO clan) most of us would prefer to focus on the positives ahead instead of the negatives of last season.

In 1994 I lost to Matt Landry on Techmo Superbowl when he tossed a hail-mary to Jerry Rice at the end of the game to beat my beloved and undefeated on 4th floor Benneweis (sp) Bears team. Sure, I could dwell on that crushing defeat, but I prefer to dwell on the good times of my freshman dominance of perhaps the greatest Nintendo sports related game ever. Of course, that semester I labored to a 2.7 GPA prompting Coach Stig to tell me to get my grades up or I'd never see the field, so maybe dwelling on the success of my Nintendo abilities is a little odd. By the way, I'd have to give Legend of Zelda as the overall best Nintendo game of all-time. There was absolutely nothing like it when that game came out. Sorry, I'm rambling.

One other thing. The Jacks coaching staff is currently spanning the country to make sure the SW State is a thing of the past. Currently, the Jacks' follically challenged asst coach is in Toronto scouting the Nike camp looking for new Jacks talent. With every ebb, there's a flow.

We can avenge that loss by scheduling them as an exhibition game. BTW, does anyone know if we have any or who we play as an exhibition game?

I know you said rhetorical, but I think Nagy addressed that in the Argus article.

If you're not in a conference, seems to me you need to show a schedule to top high school seniors that has games against the likes of Illinois and Kentucky to be competitive.

If the game on January 16th is even competitive, I'll be very surprised. There will be a lot of guys on our team that got very, very embarrassed by the Mustangs. I don't think they'll forget.

After this game, it might be a long time before SW wants to play SDSU again.

I was looking around at a couple of the articles writen about Kentucky's schedule and low and behold I read that our old friends the Northern State Wolves of Aberdeen, SD are also playing the Wildcats.  Of course their game is an exibition game.  Kind of interesting.

Maybe the Wolves will be nice enough to give us a copy of their game tape.

Super Techmo bowl is indeed the best nintendo game of all time. I never owned anything past an old school nintendo because no game ever was as good as supertechmo bowl. We had to outlaw the 49ers because the game cheated for them so damn bad. All you had to do was throw it into triple coverage and Rice would come down with it.

I'm excited about the schedule this year. What are you guys predicting for a record. Our schedule is tougher than last year, but I also expect us to be much improved from last year. We will surprise a few teams this year, especially at home. I fully expect us to beat UMKC, Tenn. St, SE Miss. St., and win one out of three against Denver, Butler, and Manhattan.
Hopefully we can pack Frost again. Hopefully Wilbur finds us some players in Canada.

We will be shocked at how this team has changed for the better in one year!!

So I have been wondering what it exactly meant when I would read that the Guardian Classic was an "exempt tournament", well I found out. Here is the answer:

                        http://www.kentucky.com/mld/kentucky...s/11972765.htm

                        Guardians Classic coming to Rupp

CATS ONE OF FOUR HOSTS FOR TOURNEY

                        By Chip Cosby

                        HERALD-LEADER STAFF WRITER

. . . The Guardians Classic is an exempt tournament, meaning it will count only one game toward the limit of 27 regular-season contests. Teams are allowed to participate in two exempt tournaments every four years. . . .

                        Go State! ;D

I look forward to starting a series with you guys -- you always seem to have a good basketball squad. How will this years stack up?

On paper, this is ISU's best squad in years (now the coach has to utilize all the talent). We have the Big Sky Freshman of the year coming back in Logan Kinghorn, as well as two other players who ripped it up against various teams (David Shroeder and Slim Millien). Tim Henry, who was a starter at Wyoming, transferred before last season, and is eligible to play this one. We also fell into a great situation and ended up signing two amazing JC guys (Tony Jones, who initially signed with Baylor and had offers from other Big 12 schools, and Akbar Abdul-Ahad, who had initially committed to Miami (OH).

Good luck in all your games this season! Stop by http://TheBengalDen.com anytime.
