      Re: 2005-06 schedule

I see the Bison play the Gophers the same day we play Illinois. Who would have thought a few years ago we would be playing Big Ten teams on the same day? 8)

Jacks To Play Gophers In Men's Basketball

BROOKINGS, SD - South Dakota State University has signed a four-year contract to play the University of Minnesota in men’s basketball.

All four games will be at Williams Arena on the Minnesota campus, starting next season with a game on Dec. 23 (2005). The teams will meet again on Dec. 21 in 2006 with dates for the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons to be determined.

SDSU and Minnesota have met eight times in men’s basketball, with the most recent game was in 1984.

The Jackrabbits completed their first season in the NCAA Division I transition period with a 10-18 record in 2004-05. The Jackrabbits are playing an independent schedule while they pursue membership in a Division I conference.

Scott Nagy has compiled a 220-77 record in ten seasons as head coach.

        Go State! ;D

I have to think this will make our growing roster of Minnesota kids happy and enhance our ability to recruit in Minnesota.

Don't want to put the jinx on it all, but the Jacks are working on a two day basketball tournament, at a well know D1 power, that would take place on November 13 & 14. Just after the NDSU fb game.....stay tuned...

I'm not superstitious. This kind of speculation is great. Look forward to hearing confirmation.

Are you hinting to the possible preseason game with Kentucky?
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

"preseason" do you mean exhibition or pre-conference? I don't think we would agree to play a team like Kentucky and not have it a "counter" game. I would love to see us play Kentucky early in the year.

I meant to comment on this a couple of days ago, but I got busy.   I can't imagine that a school would set up a tournament format (effort & expense) for exhibition games.  I have to think that the tourney that Newser is talking about would be games that count.

                      Go State!  ;D

I have the same notion myself about effort and expense. Sponsors are probably hard to come by to begin with and for them to sponor an exhibition tourney?? I dont think so. Even if it is Kentucky, I think we want to make it for real and count.

A Nov and Dec schedule that includes Illinios, Minnesota, Nebraska, UW-M, Butler and Manhatten. I'd say thats pretty solid for our first full DI season.

I had an opportunity to see Hinkle Field House last week the site of the Championship game in Hoosiers and the Jacks first DI game last year against Butler in Indianapolis. I felt sorry for the young campers who were practicing in this fieldhouse without air conditioning. They just don't build them like that anymore what a neat place!

The Kentucky game at Rupp Arena is a go according to a reliable source I talked to today. I think it is in November.

Earlier there was some speculation about "exhibition" but I don't believe a Divsion I school can play an exhibition game against another Division I school. I think they can only be agains teams from another division.
