  • Exhibition vs. DSU

What do people want to see tonight?

Would 83-62 be enough of a spread for folks to be happy?

Will Nagy play this like a game, or like a practice?

Who will get the Jacks going?

    A win.

    Most Likely.

    An exhibition game.

    The coaching staff.

Hope those are vague enough for you. Hope for a good effort and no injuries. I think it will be good to play a game at home, should be exciting.

Dakota State's coach, Gary Garner, has a good resume. In 1996, he won the D2 National Title with an undefeated Fort Hays State team and had successful stints at Drake and other schools. His son became an assistant at DSU a year ago and now Garner Senior was named head coach this year.

Here's the DSU press release when Garner was named head coach:
      http://www.dsu.edu/news/2009/garner-coach-04-22.aspx

Here's a more detailed bio found on the Southeast Missouri State site...from the 2005-06 pre-season:
      http://gosoutheast.cstv.com/sports/m...er_gary00.html

Nagy and Garner are well-acquainted: Coach Nagy's first year as head coach for the Jackrabbits was 1995-96. The Jackrabbits were 24-5, losing to Garner's (undefeated) Fort Hays State team in the North Central Regional at Hays, KS, 90-99. The following season SDSU hosted the North Central Regional and beat Ft Hays 86-74 to advance to the Elite Eight where we lost in the first round to Lynn (Fla.). The 1996-97 season was Garner's last at Ft Hays. His team was 29-2 that year and it was Nagy and his Jackrabbits who put the brakes on another marvelous season for Ft. Hays.

Garner knows Frost Arena. I suspect he hasn't been inside Frost since the 1996-97 North Central Regional. I'm going to be there and I hope a large crowd shows up for the exhibition game.

      Go Jacks!

        Re: Exhibition vs. DSU

I want to see a Jackrabbit team that looks excited to be on the court and having fun and playing with emotion and passion.

It won't disappoint me to see a few bad turnovers and not look polished due to the level of competition offered up tonight. But, these guys are all fighting for playing time so I'm cautiously optimistic.

Obviously, we are all looking forward to seeing the athleticism that has been muched talked about.

Let's toss it up! I'm ready to get this thing going!

You can be sure we won't see any sets tonight, just straight motion. The defense is what I'll be watching.

I would love to see one set play. The one they use to run with Austin, and Andy Moeller, set a few screens swing the ball around pop up open at the top of the 3 for a wide open 3 attempt. I don't know if either ever missed when they started the game with that.

This. But from what I've read/heard, I want to see some throw downs from Nate as well.

Sidenote: did anyone notice last year that whenever Wolters would make a dumb turnover it seemed like over half the time he would pick the pocket of the same guy the very next possession? The dude makes it look too easy.

He was a kid who was able to learn on the fly. I feel other summit teams will be happy to see him graduate in a few years and not face him as I suspect he will get better and better every year.

The whole Sutton clan from ORU was very complimentary of Wolters' play last year. He will be a good one before he is done.

I pride myself on being a realist and even somewhat of a pessimist when it comes to my team(s)....but...I have high hopes for this years team. Not hopes for a Summit title and Sweet 16, but I have hopes that this year is a great building block and our fist winning season in D1. That begins tonight.

I want to see a team full of emotion and unselfishness...I want to see a decent crowd that shows me other people are excited as well...I want to see a DSU team that struggles to keep up w/ our athletecism and their bigs struggle to keep up w/ out bigs...I want to see outside shots made from several different guys....I expect to see this treated as practice w/ pretty much all players getting equal time...and most of all, we've been blessed w/ no serious injuries to this point, so I hope that continues.

Garner coached DSU last year when we played them in the Exhibition game at the beginning of the year.
