What is funny is just about the time the board settles down and is ready for some honest discussion... another Griz fan jumps on with a post like this and sets off the firing squad again...

No one said that Montana shouldn't host a game.

USD is like 32-3 at home over its last 35 games, when you can win on the road it shows that you are a great team....

I guess what I am saying is Montana CAN do what they want because they have a 27,000 seat stadium that is full every week, but SDSU would of been atleast 10-1 if they'd have the schedule that Montana had so just saying you are better then SIU because you are undefeated I think has some holes in that argument....
What???? The Griz have lost 1 BSC game in 4 years. And, last year the Griz beat James Madison in their house in the semifinals to get to the Championship. So, apparently you believe that their are no quality wins on the road in the BSC and James Madison is a cupcake.

If your not afraid to take teams on at home, why not take them on on the road.

EDIT: I dont mean for it to sound bad, Its not smack. Just an SDSU fan who thinks when you make a contract to play agame, you should commit to it. I dont like it when we do it either, or any team does. Just seems the griz are masters of that.
Many Griz fans agree. We would rather play regional home-and-home with strong FCS teams than stay in WA-Griz and watch a D-II school. That being said, please understand that the Griz rank near the bottom of the BSC and all FCS teams in terms of receiving state funding for its athletic programs. Why?? Our President believes that college athletics must do more to pay for the programs. Therefore, he allocates more to academics and less to athletics. That necessarily means that many decisions in the athletic deparment will be dictated by $$$$ rather than other key factors. Give us substantially more money to come to your house and I'm sure we can probably make it work. Just pay the $$$$$. That's all it takes.

I can understand that, Just every school every college, money is tight and an issue. We have had very good relationships with other schools who have fulfilled their agreement to return for a game. If MT would have came for a game At SDSU, Im sure more fans here would think more highly of the program. We were knew to D-1 and we had to take our lumps to get here but other schools could have easily backed out of return games but we now continue good relationships with those schools and many of us cheer for them when we are not playing. Thats where it stops when it comes to the griz. Atleast those are my thoughts, its not personal to the fans, I would not like it for people to have unfavorable opinions of my school that I would not think are accurate, from where we sit, the griz have done nothing for us think any different about the program.

Honestly we would love to get to where you are, great attendence, playoffs every year, but you know how first impressions go.

When at home and charging $30 per seat x 25,000 seats = $750,000 It looks like a no brainer to me.....and i'm 100% positive that your athletic department would do the same....get over it and lets focus on what very well could be the game of the week!
I think this has a lot to do with it. It's just like a lot of people hate Notre Dame for their TV contract. If they don't turn it around, they could lose it. I think SDSU and other teams will eventually just not sign to play Montana. Will that hurt Montana? Probably not! There will still be some teams that will go there without a return game. I guess it just depends on who you are and what's best for you.
The last time the 2 teams played, didn't Montana run a fake field goal up 36-7(or something like that) with :50 left in the game? That doesn't make some fans happy either. The game is won. Just kick the field goal and move on. I don't mind the fake punt in the 2nd quarter. The game could have been still in doubt, then.

You guys make it sound like this happens frequently with the Griz. As far as I can remember, the only times we've backed out were with SDSU and Cal Poly. We've also played Cal Poly on the road a couple times recently.

As for the fake fieldgoal.. It was on 4th down from the Griz 40 according to the play by play still available on montanagrizzlies.com... Dan Carpenter (who kicks for Miami now) has a real strong leg, but not that strong of a leg. After that the Griz took the knee to run out the clock. Say that had been from the 20 yard line though instead... wouldn't kicking the field goal have been considered running up the score too instead of running a fake then running out the clock? Here's the section from the play by play:

M 1-10 M49 Clint Stapp pass incomplete to Craig Chambers.
M 2-10 M49 Andrew Schmidt rush for 1 yard to the 50 yardline (Isaiah Jackson).
M 3-9 M50 PENALTY UM holding (Ryan Wells) 10 yards to the UM40.
                          M 3-19 M40 Timeout South Dakota State, clock 00:54.
                          M 3-19 M40 Clint Stapp pass incomplete to T. B-Fletcher.
M 4-19 M40 Dan Carpenter rush for 45 yards to the SDSU15, 1ST DOWN UM (Jeff
                          Hegge).
M 1-10 S15 Clint Stapp rush for loss of 1 yard to the SDSU16.
                          M 2-11 S16 End of game, clock 00:00.
                          --------------- 12 plays, 81 yards, TOP 05:20 ---------------

Exactly...but we're the big, mean, hostile ones. How many negative comments does this make now about where we live. For the record, someone from Montana is giving someone from Sioux Falls grief for where they live? That's a good one. And why so many comments about that? Are a certain group of people sensitive about where they reside...a little paranoid perhaps? I've always thought it was best to go to another teams board w/ your hat in your hands. Do whatever you want on your own board, but when you're a guest you should show a little respect.

I notice the Montana fans seem to think they came over here patting us on the back and we, in turn, bit their hand. Funny how people can percieve things.

Re: Congratulations Jacks! Welcome to Griz Country!

                                The fact is...

                                Mo Valley qualified two teams
                                Southern Illinois 10-1
                                SoDak Jacks 8-3
Northern Iowa 7-4 didn't make it.

                                Big Sky qualified three teams
                                Montana 11-0
                                E Wash 8-3
                                Weebs 7-4

Fact is, I don't like to see 7-4 teams in the playoff, whether they're from the Colonial, the Sky or Mo Valley. You never heard any noise from me about three from the Sky. Difference between Weebs and N Iowa: Weebs had only two losses -- same as your team --to FCS teams. N Iowa had THREE losses to FCS teams. Weebs in, N Iowa out.

                                -0-

And that fake punt that continues to irk Jacks: Has something to do with your coach taking a time out when you're down 7-36 -- four scores -- with less than a minute to go. Our coach thought that meant you wanted to continue to play.

Perhaps his reaction led to canceling the contract that also irks you. Contract law 71: Rights and penalties. We exercised our right, paid the penalty. We had to stomach S Utah or Fart Lewis, but the department made maybe $400 k.

                                -0-

Not sure why S Utah's rejection by the Sky presidents is any of your business, but it may have something to do with that school's academic reputation -- as well as its reputation for chop blocks. Don't think our president (and his wife) are ignorant about football; their son is a long-time assistant and coordinator for an NFL team.

It also didn't fit our commissioner's view of where to add teams: Metro areas, e.g., Cal Northridge and LA, Portland State and Portland, Sac State and San Francisco, and NoColo and Denver. Twin Cities were toooo far away for the ex-North Centrals.
