Add a great name to the 2009 Jacks football roster!!! Trevor Tiefenthaler will join the Jacks this fall. The son of Jeff Tiefenthaler ('85), who coaches him at Sioux Central, is a two-time all stater (Des Moines Register) in Iowa, and will be a receiver. His dad says he has good hands and speed and that he wasn't influenced by his lineage in choosing SDSU. Jeff is the Jacks' most celebrated receiver and still holds the school records in one game, season and career receiving. Sounds like a great get!

Good find Jacks#1Fan! I noticed it was in the sports brief section of the Argus today. Here it is:

        Tiefenthaler signs with SDSU

South Dakota State has snagged the son of the best receiver in school history.

Sioux Central High School senior Trevor Tiefenthaler has made a verbal commitment to play football for the Jackrabbits, according to his dad and high school coach Jeff Tiefenthaler.

The younger Tiefenthaler was an all-state pick by both the Iowa Newspaper Association and the Des Moines Register in each of the past three seasons, twice at receiver and this season as a defensive back.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder played quarterback as a senior, but is expected to be a receiver for the Jacks. He made 91 catches for more than 1,200 yards with 17 touchdowns at that position in high school.

Also a standout sprinter, he won the Iowa Class 1A state title in the 400 meters as a junior. He had been receiving interest from Iowa State in that sport.

Jeff Tiefenthaler holds SDSU records for receiving yards in a game (256), a season (1,534) and a career (3,621) and was a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy in 1986. He also owns five school marks in track.

“He’s got very good speed and he’s got pretty good hands,” Jeff said, noting that family history was not part of Trevor’s decision. “He has a will to win.”

That's great news. If he's half the player his Dad was, he'll be something special.
          Holy nutmeg!

His dad was awesome. He caught everything that came his way! Great news for Coach Stig and the staff.

On a related note, I ran into Saunders Montague before the break and he said he should be ready to go for next year (back injury).

I hope they let him run track if he desires to do so.

Now if Ted Wahl has a QB son who can through to Tief, we relive the mid 1980's.

That was almost Haiku.....rep points for the Lucky Lady reference. Nickel night was a good thing.

Is there a bar anywhere anymore that you can go and get lit up for $5? Those were some great days.

Well, yes, if one beer is what it takes to get you well tuned . . .

The Saf use to have 50 cent taps on Mondays, but I believe they went up to 75 cents or a buck now

I have very dim memories of entire tables covered with full pitchers of beer, all of it purchased for less than $5.

Are there still mug nights on Wed. and Thursday? Bring in any mug with a handle and no spout and get it filled for a buck. Man, that was fun. Quarter taps on Monday at the Saf? We just did shots on New Years out of shot glasses "acquired" from the Chevy.

Anybody ever go to Danny's? I was walking towards campus once using the Campanile as my guide and ended up at Danny's. It turns out the watertower in the area looked an awful lot like my north star. Thankfully one of my roommates worked there and gave me a ride home.

One hand points to campus...the other to the liquor store.

Anyone remember Horts and dollar pitchers?

                                Buckhorn for $3 a case?
