  • Re: 2009 Recruiting Class

He was offered to be a walk-on at Nebraska. I really think had he not got hurt during his senior year, he would have possibly received a scholarship offer. He did get an offer from Wyoming and also had walk-on offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State.

I really think he could have contributed at Nebraska.....he is a tremendous athlete.

I talked to a guy at Cubby's who said he talked to his dad. He said that his dad told him that SDSU was giving him a scholarship and Nebraska wasn't, he should go there.
How true this is or not, I don't know.

I'm anxious to see what SDSU does with the last two scholarships we apparently have. If we can find another Cole Brody (signed late) type impact player on both sides of the ball that would complete a solid recruiting class in 2009!

Taylor Nelson also had an offer from Ball State, I believe when Perles went to BSU he offered Nelson, Juckem, and Jacobs.

Well, that's a bit of a caveat to "FBS offers"

Not to take anything away from the NDSU recruits.

Still, one wonders whether NDSU is in for another lackluster year, and if two back to back bumps in the road make Bohl's pitch of 'play for a title contender' a bit difficult to swallow.

I know that (believe it or not, Bison fans), Meadows and Stig are a bit worried that the new facilities going in will be a bit of a distraction from the blue collar role playing "non-Communist" football player that they like in Brookings.

(BTW: "Communist football" is, if memory serves, Stig's description for gimmicky offenses)

and on a completely unrelated note (except that it contains one coach's description of a style of play)

Joe Tiller and JoePa met before a Penn State/Purdue game and were talking. JoePa said, "You're not going to throw that ball all over the field are you?" and Tiller said, "We are what we are, Joe, we're going to go out there and play sissy ball."

Can someone tell me what a "solid FBS scholarship offer" entails? Full ride? Partial? Walk-on? Are they all thrown into the same category?

FBS schools can only offer full rides. Otherwise, you'd have schools like USC, etc., offering 50% rides and blowing their rosters all out of proportion.

Good questions. Many years ago I once had a very young but a football body Lutheran Pastor for confirmation and the rumor around church was he had been drafted by the Green Bay Packers, and I took time as a seventh grader to ask about the draft. He told me in a very kind matter that all he had received was a letter. A letter to which he never responded. This could be what some of the FBS offers are similar too. It be interesting to get into the FBS members records and find out what they paid for mailing lists.

They can offer any amount......although in head count sports such as FB, BB, VB....$1 is the same as giving a full.....also if say a track athlete wants to play FB...or BB(if Vlastulin would go out)...it counts as a scholly against FB, BB, or VB....even though no money was given from that sport.

As has been proven in the last 7 meetings, press releases and the blustering of feathers don't matter. I'll take our recruiting class because of trust with the coaching staff. They seem to know what they are doing.

Seems to me that both SDSU and NDSU have some real recruiting momentum going. Then again, you never know what you've got until they step on the field. Who would have thought just a few years ago that Jimmy Rogers would turn into a monster linebacker? Football is size and athleticism, but it's also about maturity and mentality.

I'm hearing really, really good things about Mike Whittier. He's big, athletic, mature, charismatic, and a hard worker, I'm told.
