I've already got SDSU plates and the new running rabbit 3D logo on the back window of my wife's silver town and country. Should be able to recognize us. I've got the same on my truck. We have 6 adults making the trip down and thats a tight fit in the 4-door truck with front bucket seats so we're taking the van. I plan to play the SDSU/NDSU game DVD from last year on the way down. I think thats a great pre-game program.

We will head through Sioux City and then across on 20 to some backroads I like. So, we won't cross paths with the north crowd until Ames.

Hey, Blue Hat...did you need to get a new blue hat this year? Or do you still that fuzzy monstrosity? Just curious.

Still got it. Needs to be washed before the first volleyball game this year.

Just a heads-up to those driving. By almost all human and Internet accounts, the quickest way to Ames from Sioux Falls is to go down to Sioux City, then weave over on highways. I'm surprised by this, but ... no matter where I go this information, I'm always told there's a faster way than taking interstate to Albert Lea, then heading south. *Shrug* Well ... now we know, I guess.

            I found this on Mapquest.com

            http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Siou...:::::f:EN:M:/e

5 hours 50 minutes down through Iowa (Shortest distance)

            4 hours 30 minutes I-90 down I-35(Shortest time)

I'm taking the Brainless way. And I think the Stadium is just off I-35 if I remember right?????

All the way to Sioux City would be interesting though, but it's not giving me that option.

            Update:

Sioux Falls to Sioux City 1 hour and 24 minutes, and Sioux city to AMes, 3 hours and 16 minutes. total 4 hours and 40 minutes, with a bunch of little towns to slow down for.

            Go Jacks!!

Rand McNally gives me 4:30 from Sioux Falls if you go to Sioux City, then hit U.S. 20, then U.S. 71, the U.S. 30. Distance is 260 miles. I might try it. I had one coworker tell me, "You never get to Ames" and that it takes four hours longer than you think. The local ISU grad, though, give me the "truuuuust me" bit about going to Sioux City, then across being shorter. She insists it is. I've never been there. What do I know?

I live and work in Ames and have family in Sioux Falls, so I thought I'd give my 2 cents on which way is the best way to Ames from SF. All things being equall the "back roads" are definately shorter but you will save little to no time, and that's if you speed. For the most part you will spend most of the time on two lane hiways where 55 mph is the law. Also there are small towns every 10 miles it seems like and of course the occaisonal farm equipment. The interstate route is easier, more predictable, and for the law abiding quicker tho a bit longer in miles (aprox 300 miles). The back roads are more scenic, and I take them when I am not on schedule. That's my 2 cents with inflation added

I'm looking forward to the "Battle of the Land Grant Colleges", as I'm a grad of both Universities. Plenty has been mentioned about the tailgating which is a great time. Also if you have time, check out the campus it's really quite nice. South of the campus is "Campus Town" which is where the bulk of the college bars are located. Legends Bare and Grill overlooks the campus and is a good spot to grab a burger with a view of the campus from 7 or 8 floors up. Also adjacent to Jack Trice Stadium is Reiman Gardens which is the ISU equivalent of McCrory Gardens.

Finally, thanks to you Rabid Rabbit Fans, I'm proud of SDSU's move to Div I.

Thanks GoState for your info. I had heard the Interstate is quicker, so we will be taking that route from SF. Quicker and I can competely turn my brain off, other than thinking about this matchup that has kept me up the last two nights and not expecting any better sleep for the next two!!

Welcome to the board and hope you keep contributing!! The more well-spoken(written) posters we have the more credence it brings to the board among the average passer-by just looking for information, IMO.

                        Re: Iowa State Game Plans

For what its worth, I've traveled to and from Ames and Des Moines many times. Coming from south of Sioux Falls I have found the best route to be I-29 to Sioux City and then Highway 20 across to I-35 then south to Ames. Des Moines is a no-brainer interstate all the way.

I've tried 20 to 71 to 30 across Iowa both on the way there and on the way back and it usually ends up costing me 15-20 minutes. Something always slows you down.

Some people would suggest I-29 to I-680 to I-80 to I-35 north through Des Moines to Ames. That route is 50 miles longer than the Highway 20 route and I've never lost more than 30 minutes taking 20. If you choose the 20 to 71 to 30 route you save 14 miles over the 20 to I-35 route but as I said before, you usually lose at least 15-20 minutes.

I'm on call Wednesday night which is probably a good thing. I don't think I'd sleep if given the chance anyways. I'll catch up on sleep over the weekend.

Hey Yankton Crew. What time are you leaving the area? There might be a route change to the south.

I'm rounding in the morning and then hitting the road after dropping of the 6 year old at school. I plan to have everyone on the road by 9:00. I think 4Life and his crew are heading out around 8:00. The WNAX bus is picking people up at the coffe cup truck stop east of vermintown on I-29 at 10:00 (I think). So if you take the south route we'll probably be on I-29 about 9:30.

I think if we can leave Sioux Falls by 8 we can make it to Exit #26 aka the Yankton exit by 9ish. Come on J4L you know you wanna have a convoy of Jacks fans joining you.

I'm sure this has been posted by 89', but what tailgate lot is the SDSU alumni tent going to be located at??

Also, MD we will be joining the YJC in that lot by G6 and G7, if you don't mind. We'll be arriving around 2:00, so see you there!!!!
I've been told by a guy here at work that it's a really good spot and close to the stadium, whereas it looks a bit out of the way on the tailgate map. So hopefully more of the Jackrabbit fans that are still looking of for a spot will join us in that area and create a bit of a "BlueOut"??

I'm just too damn excited to even think of anything else right now...Geez, what am I, 17 years old??
