I sure as fudge don't want that and I won't speak for anybody else but I don't want that. It sounds like the NCAA can't even do its job because of a lack of anti-trust exemption.
The answer, seemingly, is unionization of players and collective bargaining. However, recent jurisprudence has weakened labor, particularly public sector unions (which would seemingly apply to collegiate athletics), limiting the ability to compel union membership.

The end game, as you suggest, is to separate the student from the athlete. Colleges and universities will license their name, image, likeness, traditions and school songs to entities formed for the operation of revenue producing athletic programs.

Interesting thought to separate the student from the athlete... what if college athletics just end? 18-22 year old college aged kids work for a semi pro team and just attend a local school if they want to further their education. A little bit similar to how hockey players might play in the USHL or another league, while also attending a local (often times community college) college or even High School. Or how college baseball players often times play in the Northwoods League or something similar in the summer months. Rather than working for Papa Johns pizza or wherever you work as a college student, while also attending college, instead you work for a semi pro sports team and attend college.

Don't think, nor do I wish, this above outcome ever happens.

What if they sign contracts with the university. For how many years they can play, how much the schools will pay them.....just like pro contracts. Make it a little harder to have players jump every year. All I know is the way it's going is going to ruin it and lose fans in the meantime.

I don't what the correct answer is. I do know that it heading towards being a younger version of semi-pro sports. Sioux Falls has lots of semi-pro sports, I don't give a **** about any of them.

Yes. They wanted to be treated like pros, it should be done this way. Buyouts and all.

Maybe some schools do have contracts for certain years in place?

I’ll be honest, I hope Wazzou goes 0-12 next year. A season opening loss to Idaho with a new coach would be *chefs kiss*

They won't unfortunately, their defense will be top notch with all the Jacks players.

Wouldn't be surprised if they had the best defense in the conference.

Don't know if Jimmy drinks, but definitely won't be buying him a beer if I ever see him again.

Our defense wasn't that great against Oklahoma State who turned out to be a mediocre FBS team. And the best parts of that defense ( Bock, Beanum, Clayborne ) aren't going to Washington. They took a bunch of good safeties, a rotational lineman in Baloun and Humphrey, who NDSU beat like a drum. Francl could be the biggest loss, depending how fast and well he recovers from what sounds like a fairly serious neck injury. Some good pieces, but needs to have a lot added to be great.

I just keep wondering how I would feel if we would have hired Mankato's coach, and he reloaded our roster by bringing in 30 of his older players/recruits. Like you have mentioned here, it isn't even the best players from a team that is a division lower. If this is such a great job, shouldn't he be able to get players like one he took from SDSU anywhere he wants?

I'm just glad we don't have to wonder about this. I'm excited the Jacks got both Jacksons, Eidsness, and Bergstrom.

As for Rogers, the timing of it was odd in that the vetting of "unknown" players in the portal was reduced due to holidays, Spring semester start date, etc.

They have an interesting schedule next year.

I failed to notice that they have consecutive Ole Miss and Virginia road games in October, JMU in Harrisonburg on 11/22, and Oregon State games to bookend November.

Might not be a stretch to say they'll be "leaving it to Beavers" in terms of whether they'll play in bowl game.

My original thought when Jimmy was hired, "wow. awesome. An SDSU alum, former captain, guy who has given 19 years of his life to SDSU got a major upgrade for himself. WSU is going to be my favorite FBS team, I should go online and buy a Wazzu sweatshirt."
My thought a few days later. "I hope they do good, but I don't know what to think."
My thought now. "I hope the players that transferred, especially those in their 5th or 6th year who gave a lot to SDSU, have a safe and healthy season and get the opportunity to play in the NFL because of the move. I hope it benefits them personally and they made the correct career change. Whether that means they go 0-12 or 12-0, I am not sure I care."
