  • Official Jimmy Rogers Investigation Thread

It is official. This is personal. There needs to be an investigation to figure out why Jimmy decided to attempt a jugular attack on the program who made who he is.

    Theories:

    1. Massive disagreement between Jimmy and Sell. Probably over NIL.
    2. Jimmy didn’t like the initial response from the SDSU fan base when it was leaked that he was leaving.
    3. Jimmy is a cold hearted guy who simply back stabbed Stig for his personal benefit and this was his plan the whole time.

    Anyone got anything else?

Jimmy and the staff following him can rationalize that they invested time, including time away from their families, to help convince these players to choose SDSU, so they can have clear consciences when attempting to convince these same players to consider WSU.

You've likely heard assertions in podcasts and interviews that this was "life changing" money for Jimmy and staff. They're probably thinking it's similar for at least some of the players.

i completely agree with you in spirit

I have said that i am not ready to believe that some of the rumors are true. i have NEVER had anything but love and respect for Jimmy and a belief that he is a person who does the right thing first, no matter how much it does or does not benefit him

I want to believe all of that is still true!! i am definitely saddened and frustrated with current events, but I hope / want to find a way in the future to be wholeheartedly rooting for Jimmy to succeed!!!

I hope that makes my position clear. I have been a Rabbit fan from basically the day i was born. my number one priority is, like you say, focused on the future of the Jacks and wanting that to be the best future it can possibly be

but I believe all that can be true, and I can still be curious about WHAT caused this person who has spoken so so often about bleeding yellow and blue and who tried to persuade Gronowski, Kraft, and others NOT to leave, to leave himself after a very very unexpectedly short tenure as the HC?

one possibility not mentioned- has he been horribly frustrated by attendance for home playoff games the last 2 years? is he feeling like championships are taken for granted and boredom and lack of support are too close? that feels unlikely to me, but I simply throw it out as part of the conversation

i have also already offered some other theories- was it too much pressure or too much weight to carry being THE CHOSEN ONE? was he feeling like there was nowhere to go but down? at SDSU he would have been unquestionably expected to win multiple championships in the next 5 years. at WSU he has a 5 year contract and NOBODY expects him to win even one NC in that time

I’m not sure this thread is worth our time and energy right now. I love SDSU and our state but if someone offered to quadruple my salary, I’d probably do the same thing. Now would I try to kneecap my prior job on the way out, probably not but sports, money, and success make people do weird things.

Agree. Not worth my time. I appreciate what Jimmy did for SDSU. However, the way he decided to exit was/is bush league. I can’t say I’m rooting for him to succeed.

While I was disappointed to learn of WSU's hiring of Coach Rogers, I wasn't surprised.

STATING THE OBVIOUS: SDSU is a program and school where our coaches are going to get hired by schools offering a lot more money and a bigger stage. That also means that we'll be attractive for the next great coach and I think Dan Jackson's signing is proof of that. I'm confident Dan Jackson will be in great demand in the near future.

I think it's wrongheaded to be upset with Jimmy Rogers. If people want to spend their time being upset about his departure (with no or little evidence -- speculation doesn't count -- he did anything questionable), then have fun wasting your time on that!

West River Jack offers some good advice: look to the future. But I'll add that I will continue to enjoy the recent past which is a great foundation for future success.

I hope this thread fades away.

The frustrating part is that he NOW decides to make Fruend offensive coordinator. Makes a good hire like that and then asks him to observe one of the worst offenses in recent memory this year. But suddenly that’s a bad idea and we’ll just go with the proven coordinator now that we’re moving on.

I, like many SDSU fans, am not happy with the news this week. Losing a coaching staff and, from rumors going around, many players is not good news. I would like to add a little context, if I may. The coaches of a college football team are not fans of the team. They are employees. Individuals working hard at their job to gain success, further their careers, and move up in responsibility. This is just as, or should be as, any employee in any business organization.

Clearly we may be unhappy with the current state and with the individuals. Those individuals though are not working to purposely harm SDSU or the football program. The comments I see in this forum regarding Coach Rogers, or for that matter Josh Davis, Austin Hanson, Zach Lujan, etc. accusing them of nefarious actions seem off base, to me, after a 40+ year career in industry. When working for a manufacturer of fabrications we watched welders move from our plant to other local operations with each announced pay increase, creating significant production schedule issues. I have friends that took design and engineering talents to competitors, and then later came back. They were welcomed back. It is the nature of business.

My point being as fans we see a situation we do not want to see, but we should trust the leadership in place at SDSU to carry the program forward and to higher success. Accusing former employees of bad faith is less than helpful. I wish them success. And I wish the incoming staff and the incoming and remaining players even more.

I think Jimmy gave 19 years of his life to SDSU. There were probably high moments and low moments. He has probably worked more hours and dedicating his life to SDSU in 19 years than many of us work in 30 or 40 years. I've heard some rumors about NIL stuff, program funding, who knows what is true. Heard that Jimmy might have even been fined by the University for wearing a sweatshirt that supported the loss of Matt Anderson during one of the home games. I don't know if it had to do with logo's, NIL, if he's required to wear Under Armour or official SDSU gear, or what. Maybe it's not even true, who knows.

No idea if that is true but it wouldn't surprise me. I'm sure the AD has a contract with UA that has requirements which likely include the head coach of the FB team wearing UA clothing. The Matt Anderson deal is tragic and if Jimmy wanted to wear that shirt, he should have been well aware there was likely going to be consequences.
