However, part of that conversation was also if you take a USD, you are never coming back to SDSU while I’m here.
it is what it is. Did I like the play calling and offensive productive this year? No. Would JD have done better? We will never know.
whatever happens, we will need to be better next year. I think it starts at TE next year as many QBs seem to really rely on them as an outlet.

We never got the TEs consistently involved, never established a wr2. KP had a lot of hype coming off the spring game and it seemed like we never gave him a chance. USD did a really good job of utilizing all their skills- both backs, Bell, TE and their really skilled gadget guys.

But ultimately NDSU turned the tide and beat us starting up front. They got pressure with their front four and we did not.
JD showed the Eck knack for trick plays, almost to a fault. He also had the tools with excellent skill players in Vermillion this year. I might sound like I'm talking out of both sides of my mouth but is it possible we just didn't have the offensive talent to be more imaginative?

Another poster suggested that perhaps the lack of production from our TEs might be more about Gronowski than scheme. Going back to Kraft and Heinz, the complaints were frequent on this board about under utilization. Granted it was garbage time, but I liked what I saw from Mason. He really seemed to spread the ball around with the limited throwing opportunities that he had.

Yep, if you take a job at USD it closes the door on your future at SDSU. Just the way it is. Josh Davis and Austin Hanson are done at SDSU.

I'm not suggesting that it can't work, but it seems to me the development of an o-lineman and OL coach are less about the whole scheme and more focused, missing the bigger picture. I know there is a philosophy among some HCs that the OC should also be or have been the QB coach. Maybe Olson can grow in the role but I'd rather have an experienced play caller take the reigns, particularly with a new QB coming in.
Eck was one example, and I wasn't a fan of his dual OC/OL roles either.

        • Congrats on the season...I'm here to rub salt in the wound. Great game decided by one score late in the game. The noise didn't seem to affect the Jacks at all...credit to them. I know they are used to the dome and all...but it got pretty loud at times. Had a great time tailgating with a number of Jacks fans. Handed out some beer, received some great beer from slosho...good times. Really glad we had this game in Fargo.

          • On the coach's show, Jimmy talked about Mark's arm issues. He dinged his shoulder in the IW game. Threw a little on Tuesday and had shooting pains in his shoulder and arm, Didn't throw again until a few on Friday. He was limited on deep throws which is why they took a knee at the end of the half.

            • If Mark couldn't throw the hail mary at the end of the half, bring Chase in and let him throw it. There was no reason not to take a shot in that situation.

I agree with this. It would have been easy to explain. Chase is well known to have a cannon and not a stretch to think he was more capable of throwing the ball 50-60 yards.

                • I'm waiting to listen to both Happy Hour and the Jimmy Rogers Show until the drive back to Brookings tomorrow, but Kurtis Riggs' appearance on the former has me pondering whether Jacks should consider making him the Jacks' version of Hedberg.

The consensus seems to be that Riggs will head to 'bama, but who knows what happens with DeBoer if they have another season like this one.

And I believe SDSU actually took a timeout to stop the clock with 3 or so seconds left in order to take a knee.
