seriously, he could not find some kids with ties to the WSU area? i understand it for kids who were coming to us from colorado or anywhere west. i could also understand for any kids who had already decided to move a significant distance
but we had a bunch of kids who were going to be playing the distance of a very easy drive from home. suddenly it is smart for all of them to play a long way from home. have Jimmy and staff given ANY thought at all to what might be best for those kids?

i know that has pretty much been said before. hard to believe that there are not some people who really believed that they knew Jimmy well who are not incredibly disappointed
Would love to know what Stig and Sell think truly think of all of this. I don't think its so much amazing relationships that have been built between the 2025 recruits and the coaches, but rather that Washington State is flush with cash that they are distributing to these kids. I think on paper the 2024 and 2025 recruiting classes are the best we ever had do in large part to the success of the program that Stig built and all of that was done with SDSU's recruiting budget. This will have a major impact on the product we put on the field the next two years as our depth has taken a major hit. I think Jackson has assembled a superior coaching staff and they will produce, but going to lower my expectations for 2025. I also think you will some of the 30 players who have departed for WSU back in the portal soon.

    • offer on
WR Kellen Watson 6'3" 195lb Mishawaka, IN
Looks like he transitioned from WR to QB this past season. this person called him the 3rd fastest player in Indiana
on3 recruiting guy retweeted Kellen's offer and had this to say "... One of the fastest players in the Midwest"

I have an easier time understanding why the 2025 recruits are following the coaching staff to WSU. The only time they have spent in Brookings are their visits and maybe a camp. Basically the only connections they have to SDSU are the coaches who they built relationships with. I don't like it, but I can see the attraction. On the other hand, it bothers me that players who have been on campus and involved with the program for years made their decisions. I do think that a number of them will eventually regret the move.

Looking at the list on JI for players heading for WSU, there are 4 listed as grad transfers, 2 seniors (Large and Angel Johnson), 0 juniors, 1 sophomore (Kirby Vorhees - Florida), and a bunch of redshirt freshman (most of which where not from the local area). There are seven total players that have been on campus for a full year. That tells me that most of our older players are bought in to the community and school.

I’ve chosen to view this as the ones that were willing to leave were not going to be the type of leaders we want for the next class of players anyway. I’ll miss some of their skills as players - leadership qualities- not so much.

The decimation of basically 2 full recruiting classes will be a hurdle for the new staff to overcome, but the culture is still good. 19 of the 27 players are on the defensive side of the ball. Depth and special teams may be a challenge until we can recover.

Looks like he also had a Winona State offer, so Bergy probably is familiar with him.

Overall history in D2 athletics is pretty good but last season in football, their record was 6-5. The program that made a lot of news was men's basketball under Coach Ben McCollum. [Thread-spread warning: McCollum's record through 2023-24 season was 394-91. Lots of FBS schools had tried to hire him away but he had not shown much interest in moving...until April of 2024 when Drake U lost their coach and they talked McCollum into taking over the Bulldog program. McCollum is a Storm Lake, IA native...apparently Drake's offer to bring him to his home state struck the right nerve. Drake has had a great men's basketball season -- currently 17-2 and on a five-game win streak.** They've been ranked although Drake doesn't appear in the top 25 right now. In the College-Insider Mid-Major ranking, Drake is #4. (And that scrappy St. Thomas bunch is #19 while the Jackrabbit men are in the "getting votes" group].

**Excuse for knowing about Drake -- little brother is Drake grad, whose wife from the same hometown as McCollum. Little brother refuses to discuss football with me.

                    • I see that the Jimmy Rogers' poach count has reached 30 SDSU players and recruits, according to Jackrabbit Illustrated. (Ten other SDSU players are going elsewhere.) If and when Rogers starts seriously recruiting the Washington State area and the rest of the United States, football prospects and their parents would be wise to be skeptical about anything he says.

                      • How much do you think Jimmy Rodgers mentioned James Madison and Indiana when recruiting SDSU players and commits to Washington State? I would bet a lot

                        • Rogers now seems just at sleazy as Cignetti, I could see him wearing out his welcome with boosters and admin quickly at some place other than SDSU.

He better win. Winning cures all ills.

I hope we can land Reggie Kloehn (DL) and Casey Larson (LB). Both appear to be high level recruits that would fill some voids we have due to the WSU departures. Both were committed to Dan at Idaho.
