It was awesome seeing the student section packed on a game occurring during a long weekend. That recognition is well-earned
Students were great, band was great, fans were great, team was great... that's a great day!
We sat in the west side alcohol free section, but that unfortunately didn't protect us from a line of very drunk USD girls stumbling up the stairs with White Claws in hand to sit right behind us. They also happened to be attending their first college football game ever, as they loudly announced several times. They were quite impressed with our student section too. "Both those sections around the band are just their students!? I've never seen that many USD students all in one place... no one goes to games, we all just go get drunk off campus!". After 4 spilled drinks, a refill run, and a bag full of new potential words for our kids to learn, they finally left for good part-way through the 4th quarter. Don't take me wrong, I'm all for a good time... but be aware of your surroundings a bit more. Old fogey mini-rant over... Stay classy, yotes.
So, good job students. You may be #19 on some twitter guy's rankings... but you're #1 in the hearts of those girls.

Regardless, outside of the expected whining from a couple toddlers at an overstimulating event, they had a good time! Our oldest certainly was getting into the action making a bunch of noise on their 3rd downs.

Sorry about their lack of fan etiquette. They really need to save some bitter brews for crews like that to recreate the Keystone "bitter beer face" imagery.

I am am watching the replay. The Headless Yote-man came into being at about 12:20 in the fourth quarter. He was formerly known as #23, Jonathan Joanis, a senior linebacker out of Florida. (He’s actually a good player but he forgot a rule and cost his team 15 yards).
Here’s what happened (thanks for the explanation by the Midco guys covering the game, particularly the color commentator Curtis Riggs): Headless Yote-man (HYM) lines up on on the left end of the Yote defensive line. When the ball is snapped, SDSU’s Mike Morgan #34, TE/FB blocks HYM and in the process, HYM losses his hat. The penalty then occurs when HYM ran to the scrum to join the effort to tackle SDSU’s ball carrier. The refs throw a flag for personal foul rejoining the action after losing one’s hat (that may not be the official rule wording).
I was at the game and wondered if the penalty was due to what appeared to be HYM refusing to sit out a play because he bared his head. It’s possible he thought he wasn’t required to leave because his hat was peeled off by Morgan.

USD beat a good SIU team yesterday. As difficult as it may be to acknowledge for some Jacks fans, a little resurgence by USD played a big part in SDSU taking sole possession of the league’s top spot. It’s our job to hold it but that win in Vermillion was important.

It was good to see SIU taking a loss. It does help State. Watching Camp play at SDSU and a bit on broadcast it looked like he was a bit shell shocked from hurries and hits. The USD line is not their strength. Bouman was only sacked once yesterday. If the line can protect him a bit, they may win a few yet this season. You know that you're over the hill when your mind makes a promise that your body can't fill. - L. George
