I'd say player I recall being mentioned, but I don't want to give Herky any advantage at all.
If any team is delusional enough to think they gain an advantage by knowing who the holder is then I say put it out there and let them rack their brains over nothing lol Heck throw in the waterboys as well because maybe there's a smidgeon to be gained. Not that the holder doesn't matter they could be costly by simply not catching the snap or not having the laces out etc.

Bell as holder opens up fake FG options, of course

What can I say, their president put a bee in my bonnet, and I want Herkimer Hornet's Brookings trip to be as figuratively painful as possible

      • Interesting to see John Pica at 280# listed as a tight end and an eligible jersey #. Im guessing some kind of 6th lineman approach in heavy sets is where he will be utilized.

        • Probably should post somewhere else but have we had a 2 deep chart yet for the season? I look forward to that every year.

The official ones usually don't come out until game week, so there should be something out later this week. The JI podcast from last Sunday had their unofficial one, which will likely be pretty on-point.

            • At great risk of opening old wounds:

Wazzu is starting 7 former Jacks: 6 on defense and 1 on offense (although the RB depth chart is 1. Angel 2. Kirby 3. Maxwell and they'll all see a lot of touches, particularly if Angel's injury history holds true to form).

Iowa is starting 2 former Jacks: Gronowski at QB and Hawthorne on the D line.

Northwestern is starting 2 former Jacks: Wilde at WR and Beerntsen at RG.

Some names that might be second guessing their decision:

TE Davin Stoffel is 3rd on the depth chart at Illinois. Not bad but he's not going to see a lot of touches.

              At Wazzu:

Durrance. Did he envision himself as a backup as a grad transfer? Granted, he'll be on the field a lot in that scheme. Still, he would have been a certain starter in Brookings or frankly anywhere else where he doesn't follow Tucker Large and Cale Reeder.

Kickers/Punters Stevens and Lounsbury are behind a redshirt sophomore kicker/punter on the depth chart

QB Owen Eshelman doesn't make the depth chart, which isn't surprising but Wazzu appears to have young depth at QB.

Frankly, other than the running backs, the offensive players that following the staff to Pullman struggled to make the depth chart, with only Bakken on the OL lining up as a back up and WR Pabst 3rd at one of the wideout spots. That said, more defensive players went to Pullman than offensive players, and those defensive players were a more experienced and talented bunch. Some of the prized defensive recruits are cracking the depth chart on the defensive side of the ball as true freshman.

You hate to think about what might have been but man, this would have been a stacked team in Brookings this year.

I could have sworn that Francl had to sit out the year due to injury.

Before the big departure of staff and players, his hometown paper made it sound like he was done playing football. He'd graduated and with the injury, seemed at peace with his playing days being over. But in hindsight, there were subtle hints that a lot of this was in the works before the final game in Fargo so who knows what to believe anymore. At any rate, Francl participated in spring ball in Pullman.

I posted this earlier, but at the MVFC media day Dan was asked during an interview when he knew it was a possibility he would get a shot at the SDSU job. He said he heard Jimmy was leaving for WSU, but he still had some games to play so he couldn't let himself get caught up in possibly of taking the SDSU job at that point. Pretty black and white by those comments that things were happening early in December. What I had meant by the Francl comment is I thought the injury he suffered in Fargo was going to be a lengthy recovery, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

I didn't articulate very well but I gathered the same thing from his hometown paper. The point I was trying to make was that the uncertainty about a football future and at SDSU specifically expressed in that article, in hindsight, very likely was less about the injury and more about a move by staff and 30% of the team that hadn't been made public yet.
