  • I hope Nate White's teammates, coaches, friends, and family find solace in the good memories they had with him as they all grieve their loss.

As others have mentioned, this definitely puts things in perspective.

In light of this extremely sad news, I hope #3 is on all the players helmets or uniforms. It has been very quiet on this forum as it should be! I wondered if it was too early to say anything, but I did!!!

      • The medical examiner has ruled that Nate White died in his sleep from natural causes. There is no good news in a situation like this, but thankful for his family, friends and teammates that this was the determination.

          • I know that there is an online donation for Nate's family. I believe they have raised $17,000 to date. Is it possible for this same group to organize an in- person donation mechanism for opening night? I think a lot of fans would easily put $10 or more in a large football helmet or kettle and we could easily raise some substantial additional monies.

            • I found it interesting in an article Zimmer wrote this week that Kenyon Big Bow is currently in the starting RG position over Nate Adams. Hero Sports listed Adams as the 24th best OL returning in 2025, and I also have seen some All-American lists that include Adams. If this is the case and he can't crack our top 5 I feel very good about the depth of the OL this year.

              • JI reporting the addition of former Northwestern (IA) NAIA All-American kicker. I don't know how the kickers have looked in camp but I believe the reporting was it wasn't pretty in the spring.

He likely isn't brought in 10 days before the season starts unless the coaching staff is looking for improvement. It would be interesting to know the story about how he found his way to Brookings at this late date.

I saw Max Pelham was retweeting some of his earlier "still looking for a home" posts, so maybe that was the connection?

I have thought kicking was going to be one of our weaknesses this year so hoping he can get up to D1 quality quickly. NW is obviously a good NAIA program.

I would sure think kicker would be one of the easiest positions to adjust from NAIA to FCS. Last year Dustman was 14 for 20 on FG (long was 48) and 68 for 69 on PAT. Last year Stader was 15 for 21 on FG and 36 for 36 on PAT. Stader was 3 for 4 between 0-29, 7 for 8 between 30-39, 2 for 4 between 40-49, and 3 for 5 over 50 including a long of 60.

                        • That dude is no ordinary kicker. The dude is jacked up like a linebacker.

The only adjustment should be getting in synch with the holder, which I assume will be Jon Bell. I'm sure that every kicker has his own angle that he wants the ball at and where he wants the laces. Hopefully 10 days is long enough to get that straightened out.

                            • Laces out, Dan!!! or Jon in this case.
