He didn’t recruit Hammerbeck because Hammerbeck doesn’t like the Pacific Northwest

Yeah, multiple reports, and Riggs on HH/NLA, emphasized how SD kids were opting to sign with Jacks

    That was my point.

This is especially true in the portal era, location matters.

I'm guessing at that level they would be thinking of him as a return specialist.

Fast forward to 29:40 for bit on Jackson. A bit earlier is some information on the roster reductions to 105 and how Nebraska will handle things (basically telling players they can stay if they want but they may not be on the team later). Mitch Sherman from the Athletic and Connor Happer - Locked on Nebraska Podcast

    Some notes:
Jackson recruits Omaha really well (including while at Northern Illinois)

Sherman suggests Jackson will get several people currently on (or in portal from) Nebraska in the next few months and tossed out the name DB Koby Bretz (twitter) (Omaha Native, HS coach connected to Jackson) as an example. Fun note: on Koby's page, he's retweeted NIU DT Cade Haberman declaring for the NFL Draft. Cade is from Blair NE, and was a freshman at NIU in 2020 -- Jackson's first year.

Sherman basically says it could be free pickings for Jackson for some FBS players from local schools who may not get a spot at other locations due to roster sizes.

Looks like a few WSU players are starting to withdraw from the portal today.

Angel was one of, if not the fastest guy on the team this past season as well as possibly, pound for pound, the strongest. He has improved immensely as a runner and in pass protection in his time here. On top of all that he is an outstanding young man. He had two injury issues affecting him in Fargo. No I am not his agent, nor a family member.

And they need a QB - that's going to take 25% of that to get a good one. And a few other skill position players will get a bigger chunk. What does that leave for o-linemen and rotational defensive players ? Maybe $ 25,000 ? Nothing to sneeze at, but what will it cost to get their family members to Pullman to watch their games like they do in Brookings ? It's a 19 hour drive one way. Plane tickets are close to $ 1,000, with a minimum of two connecting flights which means a full day of travel to get there and a full day back. Do that for 6 home games. And a lot of the road games for SDSU were within driving distance. Maybe my math skills aren't that good, but it doesn't seem to pencil out quite so favorably as you might originally think.
There's a chance the QB or other players could emulate Riley Leonard
