    Re: 2006 Recruits

Not enough talent in North Dakota to worry about recruiting the state.

      Re: 2006 Recruits

There is plenty of talent in North Dakota, the best center in all of college football is from ND and so are many NDSU players. The only problem with recruiting ND is having to fight off NDSU and UND for recruits. When you have two schools that have so much prestige and support in a state it's just hard to break through that barrier.

Greg Esslinger is the exception not the rule.

Who are you kidding, your team has more players from Minnesota (30 ) then from North Dakota (18 ).  As a % North Dakota kids make up 20% of your team, while South Dakota kids (30) make up 36% of ours.

          Go Jackrabbits!  ;D

Minnesota is looking at two more ND recruits who will graduate in 2007 from Fargo South. They already offered to one and the other one went and visited MN. Those are just two players from one school.

NDSU will always get the bulk of their recruits from MN but that doesn't mean there in no talent in ND or not that much. It's just that some years are better for recruitng then others and last year was a down year this year and next look to be good years for recruinting ND so that percentage of ND players could go up for NDSU.

I think the big reason you don't see a lot more college football and basketball players coming out of North Dakota is because many of the better athletes in the state are choosing to play hockey. We do not have that issue in South Dakota however the sport is gaining popularity.

I'm sure the coaches have an eye on this kid for 2007....
                    From the Argus...

                    Jake Steffen
                    Stickney-Mount Vernon
A junior, Steffen has been a two-way starter since eighth grade.
The 6-foot-4, 200-pound quarterback led the Knights to the Class 9AA finals, averaging 8.6 yards a carry (1,687 yards), completing 66.2 percent of his passes (1,162 yards), making 111 tackles and accounting for 44 touchdowns. He has already had 4,187 career yards passing and running, 72 TDs and 287 tackles.
“He may end up being the best of the three D-I players I’ve had in the last seven years,” said Coach Myron Steffen.

Keep in mind this includes Mike Steffen and the Hawkeye great, Chad Greenway.

Jake Steffen as a bio up on scout.com, it has him listed as talking to schools such as Wyoming, Notre Dame, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska. He's projected as a Linebacker in college.

2005 STATS: (Twelve Games) - Recorded 111 tackles, six interceptions (one returned for a TD), four fumble recoveries, and two sacks. On offense, ran for 1,687 yards and 33 touchdowns on 191 carries. Threw for 1,162 yards and 10 touchdowns in completing 86 of 130 pass attempts.

Also, does anybody have any news on the possible D-1 players this year from South Dakota. Where any of them may be interested in going such as Quincy Christie, Antonio Thompson, ect...

Andy Jennings linebacker out of Red Oak, Iowa is considering Iowa, Iowa State, South Dakota State and NIACC. He was a first team all-state linebacker the last 2 years.

SDSU is a long-shot for this guy because he wants to stay close to home, but I think he would be a steal for you guys if you can convince him to come north. He's undersized, but very quick. SDSU is his only offer so far.

RB Tim House - 5-9/180/4.45 - Peoria, AZ (Centennial)

More on Tim House: Looks like Arizona will be a target area again.

Dirk Kool of Fairfield Iowa lists Iowa, Iowa State and SDSU as the three schools recruiting this junior. He played quarterback this past year because of team needs, but is expecting to return to his natural position of wide reciever next year.

Dirk is a stud...former captain and coach at SDSU Mark Kools kid. I think he would be a catch no matter what position he was at.
