    Re: 2007 Football Schedule

What has anyone heard about inviting Drake up for a visit? They are regionally challenged for D1-AA games outside of UNI.

Please tell me that the athletic department has already begun discussions to get UND on the schedule as soon as possible - '08 I think?? Oh please, oh please, oh please, oh please, OH PLEASE tell it is so. I'd even agree to home and home even though the Jack's shouldn't have to for a while.

UND ? They will still be in their "self imposed" exploratory period for the next two years. Thet the Sioux put us on their schedule when they decide to be 1AA. As far as putting usd on the schedule-I like our schedule without them. Drake is non scholarship, We would murder them-See Valpo.
I'm being a bit sarcastic, I am not thrilled with und's move up and definetly not in favor of a usd move up.

I agree with you about UND and USD moving up - not in favor either. But you know that if UND goes, USD will follow. They will not be left out. As for '08, UND said they will explore for two years '06 and '07 making '08 their first year moving up - at least that's the way I read it, but could be wrong.

As for Drake, there are several good reasons to play the pups.

-Good non-con to work out the kinks and get some 2, 3 and 4 stringers some snaps.

-They'll travel and need regional D1-AA games so would probably sign a 2 and 1 deal. Going to Des Moines would be a short trip, get the Jacks into a newer/near recruiting market and fans can travel. Drake Stadium, just remodeled seats 13,500 and they only bring about 7,000 to home games so plenty of good seats available. There's nothing like showing team love by traveling well AND getting a vicory.

That could be a nice little trip on one of those up coming seasons that has a unbalanced away/home schedule.

As for USD moving up, the odds really are coming out more and more against it. In fact, UND's announced move left a major sized loop hole, and they may not go either, even tho I believe that would be a major shock. From what I have heard, USD thinks that if they are being left behind, they are the ones still on the bridge that all the other kids jumped off of.

A game against Drake would be bunk. They are like Valp - no scholarships. It would be better to play a DII team that gives out scholarships than Drake. Look at what the Jacks did to Valpo a few years ago - can you say boring and not worth anyone's time. The only thing that could come out of a game against Drake would be injuries or a huge upset loss by the Jacks.

Can't be much worse than playing William Penn.

At least William Penn offers scholarships.

I'm not sure I understand this. Isn't that the same reasoning that people use when arguing against playing I-A teams, that there will be injuries? If Drake is so much worse, wouldn't the injuries be on Drake's side of the ball?

The Valpo game wasn't pretty. I'd rather play USF.

Hence my upthread comment. I was at the Valpo game. I will not be surprised if William Penn gives us a better game.

That's close - UND's official Exploratory year will be the 07-08 season. Right now, their D-I move technically has no official NCAA status.

i'd rather play a non scholie d-1 school than a d-2 school anytime, there probably isn't much of a difference but still playing a "D-1" team means more than playing d-2 and d-3 teams to the athletes.

I wouldn't. Div III Wisc-Lacross is better than non-scollie Valpo. I would think the team would learn more from better competition.

I'd like to only see one sub DI-AA (with scholarships) per year. I think we will be there in a year or two. Preferably a D2 team.

                                Re: 2007 Football Schedule

You guys aren't familiar with Drake's program then. Drake pounds Pinoneer League member Valpo every year. As for NAIA teams William Penn and Waldorf, they get pounded even worse. Drake beat D2, Upper Iowa 45-27 two years ago. They play again this year in Des Moines week 2. Granted, Upper Iowa was only in their 2nd year of D2 transition, but Drake did beat them. Drake plays UNI nearly every year and with the exception of '05 has played them pretty tough.

                                Look at the positives:
                                A regional D1-AA opponent
                                Home Game
Possible 2 home - 1 away series to a larger metropolitan city than SDSU is used to playing in. Could mean new recruiting territory.
SDSU is not up to full scholarship level and do not qualify for play-off yet so there are other options to consider.
