I was at the game and it was fun to watch. Special teams ended up being the key to the game If not for big returns and a field goal for the bison it would have been closer. There were some mental errors by the Jacks but it still was a close game. Wags performed as promised this game and ended up in the Great West top 10 in RECEPTIONS/GAME and RECEIVE YDS/GAME. 7 catches for 120 yards, some of the plays set up wow. Wags got a chance to show what we got in a stud TE and probably earned himself a spot on the Great West All Conference team with his strong play this year. Our seniors poured out their heart and soul through the transisition and we need to thank them for sticking with the program. Umm I'm exhausted and got 12 hours and 30 minutes til the girls game tomorrow. Sleep is good.

After reading the Bison board I would say you need to clean your own house before you clean ours.  Those in glass houses...

In the end it was a great game and a great season.  I am already looking forward to next year!  I am just excited about the fact that our football team found a way to keep our fans interest through the end of the year.  In so many years past the football season was basically over, from many fan's perspective, after Hobo Day.  I am glad to see our boys get the love they deserve.

Great game, great season, the Bison found a way to win as great teams always do. Great job by our D-line and O-line and even more credit to the Bison coaches and players who found a way to beat us. NDSU has done that all season with the exception at the Metrodome.

I can't help but wonder how things might have gone if we could have covered that punt. I was worried about just that after the Bison began having success on the kickoff returns. You just never know.

Andy Kardoes demonstrated what a senior leader is about. I can't even begin to describe how impressed I am by that young man. I'm only sorry I didn't recognize his potential earlier. I'm glad the people who matter did.

Stig is also amazing. His post game comments were so insightful and you could just tell he had poured his heart and soul into this team and will continue to do whatever he can to advance the program at SDSU. I was a fool for ever suggesting we need someone else. Let Stig decide when its time for him to go.

Finally, I have to commend some of the individuals who so steadfastly stood by this team through the early season struggles. I think I learned a lot from those individuals. As a Jackrabbit the most important thing I can do is stand by our program no matter the situation and I will.

Great game, great season, can't wait to get the Bison on the grass at CAS next year!!

A very nice letter Jackmd. I know you and I have had are squabbles on this board in the past. I was one of those that believed in Stig and all of our coaches. I always have. I bleed yellow and blue and have since I was a little kid. No matter how dark it might seem after any game, there is always something positive to take from it. Sometimes we just need to go a little slower and look a little harder. A die hard fan since the mid sixties.

A last minute interception by North Dakota State University sealed the fate of the Jackrabbits, who fell to the Bison 28-41. The border battle victory gave the Bison the Great West Football Conference title and the Dakota Marker.

A record Fargodome crowd of 19,053 watched the Bison (10-1) and Jackrabbits (7-4) slug it out for 69 combined points and 824 yards of total offense, trading touchdowns through the air and on the ground.

It was a big-play game by the two big-play heavyweights of the conference. The Jackrabbits, ranked 18th in the nation in Division 1AA, surprised the Bison with several big scores and a powerful running game. . . . (read more)

No. 4-ranked North Dakota State beat No. 19 South Dakota State 41-28 on Saturday night before a Fargodome record crowd of 19,053, the key play an 84-yard punt return by senior Travis White with 6 minutes, 13 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

Just one minute earlier, the Jackrabbits, a team that had won seven games in a row, including three in heart-stopping fashion, were on the verge of deja vu. They took possession with 8:50 left down only three points and feeling "unstoppable" as senior receiver Micah Johnson put it.

As much as this has really turned into a rivalry game I have to say this. I couldn't be happier that our conference rival is also our conference friends in this transition. I've said it before and will say it again. I couldn't think of a better school and group of fans that we could have made this transition with except for SDSU and my hat is off to all at SDSU. It's nice to have a rivalry without the hatred that our old rival brought to the table. My favorite team is NDSU, my second favorite is SDSU. In the future if we are not at the top representing our conference I certainly hope it will be SDSU.

IMO, the bisonbacker should be attending, rather than giving, lectures on this topic  Treat people with respect and you'll earn it.

I agree wholeheartedly with BisonBacker on this point.  This is my first post and the first time I've felt the need to say something after spending many hours, days and nights reading on this board.  This is my 5th year of being an SDSU fan and I want to express the same feelings back to the NDSU crowd.  This transition has been so much easier for us because we've been able to compare ourselves to our new rival in every aspect of our athletic department.  Our new rivalry has been rooted in respect and sportmanship and I think we have each of our administrations and coaching staffs to thank for that.  Respect starts at the top and it has trickled down even to our fans.  In any rivalry each side is going to have their arguments and opionions but I feel in the end a large majority of the SDSU crowd feels very much the same way as what is stated above by BisonBacker.  I'm sure I'm not the first one to admit this but I was sitting all alone in my basement the afternoon NDSU was playing the Gophers on TV.  By the 2nd half I was on the edge of my seat yelling at the TV rooting for NDSU.  I kept thinking how big a win that would be for NDSU but more so, all of I-AA football and the Great West Conference.

I was fortunate enough to overhear SDSU's AD after the game talk about how much better this rivalry is than the one we use to have.  He went on to say how much more respect there is and how much more enjoyable it is to be a part of this than what we were used to.  I think we all need to tip our hats to both schools' athletics directors on their vision and leadership they've provided their respective schools the past number of years...spanning prior to the D-I days.  It was they who had the vision this was possible and knew the groundwork had already been laid for the kinds of successes each school has achieved since making the move up.

A game like this exemplifies where each school has come from and where they will be headed in the future.  Thank you to NDSU for being such a quality partner in this transition.  I can't even imagine how much harder it would have been without you.

Finally had the spirit to post on the game...It was a great game and many of the bison fans around me where totally caught off guard and impressed by the team the jackrabbits put on the field.  The guy sitting next to me told me about fifty times during the game that, "it's just like a heavyweight fight with two champs going back and forth at each other." The game was so much closer than the final score, and even though I can't say for sure, I think you had to be in the Fargodome to truly realize that.

Despite the PA guy, the bison have a great gameday environment and we as jackrabbits could really learn from a lot that their fans do.  I don't think I saw anyone wearing anything other than green and gold (besides the Fargodome concession workers who were nicely outfitted in Blue polos  ) from the time I drove into Fargo three hours before gametime.  If I didn't like watching the first half of our season outdoors so much I sure could get used to watching games in a building like the Fargodome - it really is a nice place to watch a game.

I didn't like it when Terry V pointed it out last week in his blog, but I will admit now that he has a great point regarding SDSU v. NDSU.  It is quite amazing that we even compete with NDSU when one looks at our scholarship situation, funding for football atmoshphere, facilities (have you seen their coaches offices - see link below), stadium, support, and did I mention funding.  Stig is doing a tremendous job just to steady the ship in that sea, and I know he would be the first to tell me that is "horse manure" even though it is true.  I really can't wait to see how the two teams compete once we start to close the gap on them, it will really take this rivalry to new levels.  But in the meantime, I would take twenty more games like the one I saw on Saturday, minus the outcome.  It was a classic.

Make that 24 conference championships and eight NCAA Division II national titles since 1965 for North Dakota State University.

On Saturday night in the Fargodome, the Bison beat South Dakota State University 41-28 to earn the Great West Football Conference crown and solidify a place among the elite teams in the program's storied history. NDSU finished its third season in NCAA Division I-AA with a 10-1 record, including victories against three ranked teams and Division I-A Ball State.

Even the Bison's lone loss - 10-9 at bowl-eligible Minnesota - seemed to elevate their status. Radio analyst Phil Hansen, who played on three of NDSU's national title teams before an 11-year career in the NFL, called this the best Bison team he's seen.

What, then, does that say about the Jacks? Because any perceived talent gap turned out to be minimal at best.

"Every time we play them they're no different than us," NDSU defensive assistant Todd Wash said. "They're Midwest kids that love the game. They play hard for each other, and that's the reason they're in every game they play."
