What ever the stadium looks like I want it to at least hold 20,000 people. We have to look in the future! What will our enrollment be? How big is Brookings and Sioux Falls going to get? Will we ever go play with the big boys like in the WAC or MWC? To do that we have to average 15,000 people a game. So think long term and think big!

So we are agreed. We need a 20,000-seat stadium that is also acoustically neutral so our band can hear themselves play without any distortion.

Somebody get Phil Spector on the phone. We need somebody like him who is an expert in sound and who has a lot of guns so I can blow my brains out rather than expend any more effort worrying about the band.
          Holy nutmeg!

With an option to expand to 25+ with out too much of a problem.... I think that when promoting this to donors to say that we have the option to go even bigger would be a big thing because the last thing a donor wants is to have them come back in 10-15 years and say oops we built it too small and now we have to spend a lot more either on a whole new stadium or on complete renovations to get the stadium bigger..... As far as band wise I just think they should look at it before doing something because I have been in the band and the out door sound can be greatly effected from place to place.....

When we build a new stadium it has to be able to hold between 20-25k. That would only make sense. My preference would be right about 20k but with an opportunity to expand if the need arises. It's okay if the demand outreaches the supply at some point. That could happen if the team continues its path of improvement. Some form of "skybox" would be a good addition as well.

As far as the band goes, I support them and think they are a huge asset to SDSU but if they aren't going to be there for a game like the NDSU game then I am not worried about how they will "acoustically" fit into the new stadium. Hopefully, that has been resolved and they will be there November 20th in full force.

Joeboo, not poking fun at you with this post!

Nope. They have informed the athletic department that they won't be playing any more games this year.

Last year I donate to "The Pride". Sorry to say it but that is how I feel. I'll reserve further comment for now.

Hmmm ... The Pride already has my cash (not that I'd take it back). This is off topic (sorry), but why aren't they playing the rest of the year? And (to kind of get on topic), certainly any acoustic problems can be handled with upgrades as every other football team in the land has a band playing. Am I right?
Grumbling along and embracing my role. If I didn't care, I wouldn't care. Go Jacks!

Just wait, NDSU's band will probably show up now. That'd really make us look bad.

I'm guessing: They have a lot to do to prepare for the Rose Bowl. It's really cold in November and even though I've never tried to play a brass instrument in 10 degree weather, I can imagine it's not terribly pleasant.

I don't know what to say. Great band. Terrific kids. Wonderful ambassadors for the university. Inspiring halftime performances (seriously, their last two have been really great, even by their high standards). But they're just not on board with the athletic programs and haven't been for a while. I don't know why.

If it was 10 degrees on game day I could definitely understand them not playing. But it could be 45-50 degrees on game day the way the weather has been lately, no reason they couldn't play then. They could use it as a "practice" for the Rose Bowl trip that alot of the football fans (including me) who bought raffle tickets are helping to pay for.

I'm a little disturbed with the trashing that the Pride is receiving on this board. The fact that the Pride isn't playing next month (and has skipped most late-season games in past seasons) is not the problem...the Pride's absence is the symptom of the problem that most of us are aware of: SDSU football season seems to end at Hobo Day. The band directors can't be eager to send their students out in 20-degree weather (with plenty of chilling winds) to play in front of 2000 people. I do know that some Pride members have wanted to play at the NDSU game, but I personally haven't heard any more if there will be a "volunteer" band there for the game.

For those who are on the fence about helping the Pride now (and in the future), I would encourage you to continue supporting the Pride AND sending a note expressing your concern about their absence from games such as the NDSU one. In addition, send notes to Dean Jerry Jorgensen (Arts & Science Dean) and President Chicoine expressing the same sentiments. Even though you may send a message by not donating, your concerns are probably going to be more accepted if you are still an active financial supporter.

Don't hurt the hard-working students for a decision that is out of their hands. After all, they are the reason why the Pride is THE Pride of the Dakotas. The enthusiasm and hard work by the student band members were there long before Mr. McKinney became the Pride director and it will be there way long after he has retired.

As for the actual topic: Once a real grandstand is built on the east side of the field, move BOTH the student section (which would able to be larger than the current one) and The Pride over to that side. The students and the band feed off each other and contribute immensely to the atmosphere at CAS. It would be a grave mistake to seperate the two, as was the case during the game at Howard Wood.

So about the stadium upgrades eh...
One last note about the Pride before geting on to the subject of upgrades.
Pride should have no say as to the accoustics they aren't donating money I'm sure. I think the Athletic Department and the people donating for the stadium upgrades have about 90% of the say give the Football fans and the Non-band students the other 10%.

Can't wait to see more construction on campus starting. As a construction management student I am excited to see all the building going on currently and can't wait for more.
