    Re: 2008 Schedule

Was also looking at hotels for the Ames weekend last night. I am planning 2 trips to Iowa next year - Iowa State and Northern Iowa for football....We will probably be playing UNI in Mens basketball again too, which would be in Cedar Falls.

Let me know on the hotel you guys choose. Would love to stay there too.

Coughlin would be available that Friday night. If BHS did have a home game, it would be played that Thursday night because of playoffs beginning that following week. That being said, I doubt it would be moved. I'm also not to sure how much it would help attendance either. It appears to me that most pheasant hunters that don't make the game Saturday is because they are too far out of town to make it back. And if they are that far away hunting, they probably won't wait around Friday night until after the game to leave for their hunting destinations either. It could help out the local hunters though, so maybe it could bring attendance up a little.

        Re: 2008 Schedule

It was an interesting year after moving to Iowa, 2 hrs further from Brookings. However it puts me that much closer to Ames and UNI. I think my family will use our house for staging grounds for the Iowa St. game.

Tickets are hard to come by, but season ticket holders should get a shot at some correct?

I would say Cal Poly would be a great Hobo Day. Former conference foe in which we have a bit of a rivalry already. A night game for Hobo Day would be dangerous but I am sure the students would love it.

Cal Poly is actually the Pheasant Opener game, that's why I mentioned that they should move that to Friday night.

The Nov. 1st game is against Missouri State in the afternoon, that I thought should be Hobo Day and that leaves only one more home game for possible crappy November attendance.

My post was a bit confusing.

I think that Hobo Day should be against a Gateway team. We need to make an impression on the Gateway teams that we have great crowds. Hobo Day is the best crowd game of the year. We also need to expose as many fans to the Gateway teams and having a Gateway team on Hobo Day would be a good exposure for the fans.

I do like the idea of moving the Phesant Day opener to a Friday night if that will work.

                Re: 2008 Schedule

A Friday Night Special for the pheasant opener weekend is, I think, something that really should be looked into--especially if you can get the Gateway Conference and Fox Sports Networks signed on to it.

It could be really huge if marketed right, and open up hitherto untapped fundraising options for SDSU. (Ever notice how many corporate executives jet into SD to hunt pheasants?)

I didn't think your post was confusing. I was able to guess at the reason of the Friday night game. I just like Cal Poly as the Hobo Day opponent. I hope that the AD rotates in the former Great West opponents in every year for the OCC. Especially if they can't find an automatic bid conference to the playoffs.

Just my 2 cents.....I hope we continue to play Cal Poly and UC Davis as OCC teams. They helped us form the Great West and we need to return the favor to have them on our schedule

I agree that a Friday night game on the Pheasant opener weekend is a good idea. Alot of the students that attend football games are also the ones that are avid outdoor enthusiests. Saturday afternoon on pheasant opener = small student crowd.

Hobo Day is going to be the Saturday before the pheasant opener for the next few years. That's what I have been told by friends at SDSU.

that makes sense but I do think that SDSU should do all it can to move the home game if there is one on pheasant opener to friday... teams will do it and it will be well attended atleast better attended then it would be on that saturday....

Defenitely that would be something they need to look at. We need to try and do all we can to keep putting 13k or more in the stands everyweek.

Later Hobo Day (Late Oct/Very Early Nov) would help this...I can't say I see the logic in having it earlier.

Agreed, I think Hobo Week could be moved back to the first week in November or the last week in October. Keep the NDSU game within the last 2 weeks of the schedule, thats the way a rivalry game should be IMHO. Gateway opponents will become more familiar to fans very soon. I think and average of 13,000 per game is an excellent short term goal. Eventually we need to see a 15-16,000 per game average. Gonna take a commitment from students and Brookings area fans as well as more support from the "metro" area.
