I'm guessing as a WR???? I think he is about 6'3, 190 or so.

Could be another Wags like tight end in a few years. It seems to me that Dan's BBall prospects were pretty high just a year or two ago.

I don't know how fast he is but he'll fall somewhere in that Wags/Mike Steffen mold.

Here is the latest addition to the verbal list:

That makes this list of seven as follows:

So here is the verbal list as we know it.

Tyrel Kool - RB - Yankton, SD
          Thomas O'Brien - QB - Winona, MN
John Fick - OL - Hull/Rock Valley, IA
Josiah Fitsimmons - DE - Ames, IA
Seth Daughters - TE - Winner, SD
          Tyler Luethje - OL - Gladbrook-Reinbeck, IA
Keegan Nesvacil - TE - Middleton, WI

I'll try to keep this list up to date as we receive more verbals. More information on each recruit can be found by reading this entire thread.

AGAIN - Is there any chance the moderators can merge this thread with the "2008 Recruits" thread????

Here’s what the tight end from suburban Madison, Wis. - apparently adept at both pass catching and lead blocking - said about choosing SDSU: “The coaching staff. They’re just the best coaches I’ve ever worked with and had a chance to know. They’re really great guys.” Hmmm. Where have I heard that before? Oh, yeah, from every other Jacks recruit this year. The lack of variation in response to that question is telling.

Someone on SDSportstalk has indicated Jeremy Randle a running back from Sioux Falls Lincoln has committed to SDSU. He is also a pretty good track athlete.

Wouldn't he be the third tight end to sign then? Must be going to move one of them to another position if he gets him. Got Daughter and Nesvacil already.

Has anybody heard anything about Will Castle from Brandon Valley? At one point I heard he wanted to go to State, but I haven't heard anything since.

Recruiting TE's is a great thing. usually they are quite athletic and have the size and frame to put on some muscle and bulk and move into the OL. Big, fast, athletic OL are a premium, with a touch of nastiness added......

I believe starting tackle Casey Bender was recruited as TE. We also use our TE's as a FB, like Matt Anderson and Luke Greving, so some of these recruits could also be future full-back type players.

Didn't Paul Keizer start out at TE as well. He turned out to be a pretty solid O-linemen.

All of the post above regarding the TE position are good points. I guess when I asked the question, I thought about moving one of them to OL, but did not think about the fact that these guys are very athletic and can be used in many positions. Fortunately, we are at the point now where Stig can go out and recruit good athletes and then adapt them to a position. Better than having to recruit for a specific position.

Big TE's often end up as good OT's because of the good feet....But not often are put to the Defensive side of the ball....your usually talking about a whole different mindset....plus the fact if they had that ability originally...they would have started there.

Recruiting Tight Ends (and Linebackers for that matter) is always good because they are so adaptable to other positions. The key though is finding a tight end who is going to be a good tight end. Those guys are diamonds in the rough. Often overlooked, a top quality tight end can be key to a very good offense. Run blocker - yep, they open up the edge for the outside running game. Route runner/Pass catcher - a QB's best friend on every passing down (nothing like a guaranteed first down every time you throw to a tight end). Hopefully one of these guys has a little, dare I make the comparison, Steve Heiden in them and is truly a great tight end and not just an avenue to fill another need on the team.

And yes, I'm biased toward tight ends for reasons many know all too well.
