FYI, the coaches did see these guys. Kunhert, Gebhart, and Hardie all received offers and chose the Bison over us. NDSU was the only regional D1 to offer Smith, and DeJong is a walk-on that transferred in from Minnesota-Moorhead.

Mohr and Weiss were both SF kids that came to SDSU on scholarship but transferred back down to Augie, one for playing time and the other for personal issues.

The coaches also offered Marlette but lost the battle for him and Quintanilla only has D-2 offers and a PWO offer from SDSU that he is strongly considering accepting. SDSU has 5 scholarship RB's on the roster already and a commitment from a RB in Omaha, their are no more scholarships for RB's to get unless something on the roster changes.

We already have multiple offers out to current Juniors in SF, although after a good summer these players will probably end up in the B10 or B12.

SDSU just hasn't done as well in Sioux Falls as other area schools(NDSU or USD) have lately. USD has 5 of their 11 in-state players that came from Sioux Falls. SDSU does better in some other areas but SF is one area that they seem to not get the players from right now.

        Nice Post Goosie.

Also, if you look at the Sioux Falls kids that NDSU landed, none of them turned out to be above-average players (Jury is still out on Kunhert). If SDSU missed on anyone, it's Hermanson at Montana.

Gebhart (NDSU) and Hermanson (Montana) have dads who were good athletes at SDSU: Gebhart's dad and his dad's twin brother were top track athletes; and, Hermanson's dad was a good football player. I think its understandable that some guys are going to want to find their own path and not go to the school their father attended. For others, it's a big deal to attend the same school dad, and even grandpa attended (and that's to our good fortune with Cole Langer!). I trust that our coaches are looking for athletes who meet our needs. It seems we've had little success in attracting athletes from the Sioux Falls schools but think about the pipeline we seem to have with Brandon Valley athletes. If you consider Brandon Valley High School as one of the metro Sioux Falls high schools, we're getting our share.

Pretty sure Hardie is a decent player. He's a junior and was getting playing time on that defensive line at NDSU as a freshman. SDSU missed on him. (IMO of course)

              Did we offer?
              If we didn't...we definitely missed.
If we did...we didn't miss, especially when it we go up against NDSU. Right now they have everything a kid wants at this level...even SD kids. Our new stadium will help, but nothing does it like insane fan support and National Chpionships....the two things they definitely have up north.
              SDSU...Passionate, Relentless, Champions.

It looks like is teammate Dez Billengslea, who also had an offer from us, committed to Kennesaw State a couple of weeks ago. You gotta figure if we didn't get one, we wouldn't get the other.

Watching the Jackrabbit Insider this evening. This week's program featured a classic -- SDSU football at USD in 1999. The game was a back-and-forth battle with SDSU going up for good late in the game when Josh Ranek broke free for a 53-yard run. A few plays later, Casey Hillman intercepted a USD pass attempt and ran it in to end any USD hope for a last-minute miracle. Watching Hillman, I was reminded of the discussion in this thread about how we haven't been landing any Sioux Falls recruits recently. Hillman was from SF O'Gorman. This may just be an unusual period when it happens that we do not have many from Sioux Falls on the roster but over the years, we've done well recruiting from the Sioux Falls high schools.

I agree, JD. The Jacks haven't done badly in Sioux Falls. Sioux Falls recruits in the past few years have included some stars -- JaRon Harris, Ryan McKnight and Antonio Thompson, to name three. There also have been highly regarded recruits who didn't pan out, such as Jake Weiss and Brandon Mohr. Other players in recent years from Sioux Falls have included receivers Matt Hylland and Brad Iverson. Current players include Justin Syrovatka and Eric Tuschen. Hopefully the new practice facility and the Jacks' D-1 tradition of winning will make SDSU an even more attractive option to recruits no matter where they are from.

We have done well in sioux falls and surrounding areas but feel we could do better. I think if sdsu had a better culture and made an impression on these kids when they were younger could have helped land a few more that went to ndsu or montana. Seems a lot of sioux falls sports kids seems they have to go away to get something special when they might overlook or think poorly of what's in their backyard for options.

I agree with JackJDand Jacked up, we haven't done that bad in SF. Its not that our staff does not pay attention to SF, we do, but we had some good ones turn us down, but that's the breaks of the game. I suspect some of these kids want to get more than 60 miles from home and that might influence their choice more than anything.
