    Re: UC-Davis Game Day Thread

    Special teams was really bad.

Sumner didn't look that great; he takes waaaaaaaaay too many sacks.

Defense was really good throughout, but I wasn't impressed with anything UC Davis had. That could be our defense though, not sure.

Zenner is a freaking beast. Best RB we've had since I've been on campus.

Player of the game for me was TJ Lally 10 solo tackles, 4 sacks for a total loss of 31 yard on ucd and then the fumble recovery at the end of the game. HUGE game... it seemed everytime UCD would get a little mommentum on offense 33 would get a Big sack. Esp in the fourth.

I predicted a close game and lets have some fun with numbers.

        My score SDSU 21 UC-Davis 17

        Subtract nine -9 -9

        Result 12 8

        Today's score 12 8

I do agree that we had some poor performances on Punt Returns, but Stig had said the UC-Davis were excellent ons special teeams and they had a very good punter. It's hard not to give him some credit. Our offense though not perfect keep the Davis D on the field for
well over 20 minutes in the first half and I think they started to wear down in the fourth quarter. Imo this was a good football team that we beat today. Well coached. Going for 2 on their Defensive scored TD was smart and we did not seem to have an answer for stopping the 2. UCD ran it in easily. Its a win, I will take it.

If you had to guess without looking at the stats... what would you say the time of possession was? (obviously by my question you know it wasn't what I expected) but UCD actually had the ball longer than we did.... by like 30 seconds, but still it felt like we had the ball much more than they did.

              Re: UC-Davis Game Day Thread

Something about the game-day atmosphere was missing. The crowd didn't get into the game very well. The play on the field seemed to be pedestrian much of the time altough I think we'll have to credit the defenses for some of that (maybe we're getting too accustomed to games in which both sides score four or five touchdowns).

Something is wrong with the sound system. It was most noticeable when music was played. To me, it sounds like it's time to replace the speakers because the low base notes sounded like the speakers were worn out and riddled with holes.

And what was with the scoreboard? Was it bring your kid to work day? Example: in the fourth quarter, the scoreboard showed:

The fifth quarter? Let's see...quarter means...

Then, when the person or persons pushing the buttons or spilling their coffee on the control panel, fixed the number of quarters, they messed up the time outs left. After each team had taken its second time out, the wizard behind the curtain must have reset the timeouts: the scoreboard showed both teams having three (that was corrected a couple of minutes later to "1" each).

The PA guy had one or two minor bumps but otherwise did a good job (I'm always thankful we don't have a cheerleader-type for the PA announcer like is more common at lower division schools as well as NDSU. )

But it was a win. Good job, Jacks. We can look pretty next game.

I very seldom comment, but 1. the defense played great. 2. The offense has to score more pts, we had almost 400 yds of offense but only scored 12. 3. Punt return team has to get it right, field position is of great importance. We lucked out today that it didn't cost us pts.

BUT MOSTLY................I WAS EMBARRASSED BY OUR CROWD. Its a home game, and i can tell you we made more noise at the Kansas, and Louisiana game.

I was going on instinct, which apparently is wrong. I will be darned.

Defense looked good. Z-squared (to the power of) is a beast. Sumner looks to be still having problems with release and should improve. Why are we catching punts inside the 5? Stigs wouldn't comment on special teams receiving, post game. As for crowd, I was a bit parched in the second half after concessions ran out of water (significant fail).

Scoreboard? I told my son that if we got out of the 5th quarter with a lead we had a good chance of winning

I noticed today that Ja Ron Butler was playing right corner back instead of David Godley. Ja Ron looked great in his debute. Is Godley hurt by chance?

I saw 2 different Scoreboard controllers being being ran up and down CAS so, my guess is that there were issues they were trying to fix.
