    Re: Signing Day: GDT

    Per TV:

    DT Davierre Cummins from Arizona.
To clarify on Cummins: He's a gray shirt meaning he'll be here in the fall or the spring, depending on what spots remain.

According to TV via Twitter: "SDSU has received its final LOI of the day. Tune in to http://ArgusLeader.com at 2 p.m. for a signing day wrap via Sports Web."

Looks good, Paris is in according to TV. Seems the focus was on OL, DL and DB's which seems about right to me.

                  Re: Signing Day: GDT

I made the mistake of tuning into KWSN 1230's Craig and Chris show via the magic of the InterTubes.

Craig Mattick is (and this is probably not a news flash to most perceptive sports fans) . . . um . . . well . . . let's go to the tape . . .

Here is a direct quote: "When I look at the national signing day today, South Dakota State, USD, Augie, USF, Dakota State, Northern, I think right now the winner, at least in my book, and this is just -- straight athletes, OK? Just athletes who could make a big difference, I think Northern got a great recruiting class . . . I think they got some really good athletes who could play with anybody, they really could!"

                  Um. OK.

This is based, apparently, on the fact that Northern signed a bunch of reasonably talented, and more importantly, local kids.

The good thing about wearing blinders, I guess, is that you don't get distracted by what's going on to either side of you.

I guess somebody better ask Stig why he didn't go after those dynamite local guys that Northern snapped up. I'll be curious to hear if they follow up in this vein when the interview Stig in the 4pm hour . . . "Stig, why wasn't your recruiting class as talented as Northern's?"

                  Heh.

huge class. the last two entries in cummins and the db from california are perfect to an already outstanding class. hopefully they all hold together throughout the years

It is not uncommon for people to make asinine statements about football...

...it's just that those people usually don't get their own radio show.

Coach Stig is going to be on KWSN at 4:15 pm, so I hope Craig asks "How did you let Northern out-recruit you?"

Northern may not be able to out-recruit Stig.....but what about out-coach?

                              Re: Signing Day: GDT

Northern did get one heck of a football class, I would argue it was the best non-D-I class in the state. I think when its a local radio/tv station of course they are going to side with the school that is local. If you see someone in person you have a different opinion on them if you have only seen them on tape. I'd also state that in my memory (and its not great) this is the "least local" class SDSU has had. Only 2 in state kids, a couple from the neighboring states but they weren't in the media market.

Now I think that is a good thing, yes you have to keep YOUR athletes but look at NDSU, UNI, Montana and other FCS schools, they aren't stock full of local athletes.

As far as the class in whole, I'm sure the coaches and media will say they like (love) it but can anyone really know? Tell me in 2-3-4-5 years and then I will actually give it a grade

I keep thinking about some equivalent sports talk show host here in Kansas City making a similar statement. "You know, out of all the colleges, Mizzou, KU, K-State, Rockhurst, Northwest, Pittsburg State, I think that the school that, just looking at athletes who could make a difference, who could play with anybody, the school that had the best recruiting class was Missouri State." And then goes on to ask Snyder, Pinkel, or Weiss why they got out-recruited by Terry Allen down in Springfield.

                                Uh. Yeah. Right.
