Per TV Terry Vandrovec @TerryVandrovec Maple Grove WR Jake Weineke (6-4, 205), a first-team all-state pick and MN Mr. Football finalist, said he has given a verbal to SDSU
I'm psyched about the potential for Wieneke to be that big, fast target that can extend the field. While we can't compare him to Dale Moss yet, he does bring that large framed athlete to the wideout position. During Sumner's first season, he was often able to fire the ball Moss' way and count on a completion despite good coverage. David la Vaque at the StarTribune contributed this information about Wieneke.
Wieneke is 6-5 and his running and jumping ability makes him a matchup nightmare for most teams. "Jake thinks that if there are six guys on him I can throw it to him and he'll catch it," Skaja (Maple Grove QB) said. "To be fair, that's probably true. He told me that he won't let a ball I throw to him get picked off and he's kept his word."
If he stays motivated and works hard, he could really add to a very good passing game. Add some weight to his already imposing frame and he could be a nightmare for opposing defenses.

Mikias appears to be very fired up to play for the Jackrabbits! He tweeted a fair amount about his commitment and it appears like he is rooted strongly in his faith. What I'm curious is will he really translate into a LB or would he be a good fit at safety? The kid has a motor and a mean streak on the field, but will his 6' frame add on enough to ward off blockers as a LB? I'm glad we will have some time to find his best fit, but his fit in the uniform looks pretty good!

Considering Mikias played MLB in high school, I would assume he stays there in college. He's probably taller than our current MLB TJ Lally.

Finally got around to watching Mr. Wieneke's highlight video and the first thing I noticed was how unnecessary it was to highlight where he was before each play, as it was quite obvious. He was just bigger and faster than everyone he was competing against (and played in the biggest class in Minnesota).
TV's blog said we were his only DI offer (though had a walk-on offer from the Gophers), which is shocking to me. Oh well, we were Zach Zenner's only DI offer and he turned out okay.

If he has the same body type as his brother who plays for the Gophers , he has room to grow. He was recruited as a QB , but is currently a nearly 300 lb TE.

He is a big one, looking forward to him playing for the Jacks. I am sure they have not decided where he will play but have a big TE is something we need badly. Daughters due to injuries has had some bright moments, but not as many as I expected.

Not sure who you are referrring to, but bigticket was referring to Mikias who is 6'1"" 206. His older brother is the TE for the Gophers at nearly 300lbs.
This is a fun video to watch. Might need work with Mr. Bobbit on wrapping up and avoiding the helmet to helmet penalties, but man is this kid not afraid to lay the wood on the ball carrier.
Here is some more video of Jesse, only here he is doing more intercepting and form tackling.
