Locker room speech: Where do you think you're going? Nobody's leaving. Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned football season. No, no. We're all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm f'd up emergency here. We're gonna press on, and we're gonna have the hap, hap, happiest first positive football win since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny f***ing Kaye. And when NDSU brings that rock back down here, they're gonna find the jolliest bunch of a**holes this side of the nuthouse.

I would have liked to be in the locker room after the game to see how the coaches were. I know we keep harping on TOB.. but, I guess I blame the coaches for this more than him.

Honestly, TOB knows the fans have turned against him. I would not want the pressure he is facing, he is just a kid.

BUT when the coaches see that someone is struggling, even if you do believe he is your qb of the future, at some point you say, take a break. Maybe getting benched for a half would wake him up. The coaches are setting him up to fail and at the same time, making it nearly impossible, even if he does something good to get comfortable in the game. I don't at this point see him ever succeeding because he has failed to produce so much at this point. I bet even TOB was hoping coach would put Sumner in. Hell even when TOB did something good today, I was expecting failure with the next play. That can't be far from his mind at this point either.

That said, our D was pathetic. Our O line was weak and got pushed around. The whole team gave up. I stand by what I said earlier. I would have put Sumner in at the half just to see how the team reacted.

I wanna see some mental toughness from this team. I don't wanna hear about the scheme or any of that other bullsh*t. When I played, everyone and their brother knew what we were going to run and it didn't matter. What those teams, all had was mental toughness. It seems like ever since we've been to the playoffs and got the new Dykhouse Center and all, this team has lost some of that. I hope these guys prove me wrong and rip off a bunch of wins.

Remember back in Sept 2006 when we lost to a division 3 Wisconsin-Lacrosse and there were calls for new QB, new coaches, new friggin' toilet seats, new everything to do with the SDSU program. We stuck with it and banged off 7 straight wins. Hopefully history repeats itself.

Coaches stuck with him and my positive spin is at least we threw more passes down field in the second half. Sure its a poor pass defesne team we did it against but it was something. But it still didn't help tob won't lOok off the primary wr. All in all. This was worse then last week from the players effort. No run game what so ever but wr are talented for sure. They make a lot of tob catches that a lot of others would drop or not get too. I was embaressed last week. I think now I am just numb. This team will be lucky to win even 4 games this tear imo.

missouri beat western illinois today 69-0 but the most interesting game other than us getting our ass kicked is Indiana St beating FBS Western Kentucky 44-16

One thought. We know there is talent on this team, just as there was last year. If they are underperforming due to attitude then that is on the coaches. Attitude and environment in any organization is squarely on the shoulders of the leadership and flows top down.

After yesterday's performance I am beginning to question the coaches, starting with Stig. I think he is a great head coach and I will not call for his head but he needs to begin looking down the line at his assistant coaches and begin asking what is different then 2-3 years ago. We were never the most talented team on the field but we were always the hardest working and most physical team our opponents faced. That's changed and it is time to ask why. We have had some very good assistants leave on their own, maybe now is the time for Stig to drop the "loyalty at all costs" mentality and begin looking at letting some folks go. As for TOB, he has gone down hill each year as a starter and his decision making is getting worse. I think he is likely a good kid and I blame coaching for many of the mental problems he seems to have right now. Give the kid a break, it is time to see what those behind him on the depth chart can do. One last item, putting in Sumner with 1:00 left yesterday was tacky and a slap in the face of a kid who, from all accounts has worked his axx off. I would not be happy and I think Stig needs to pull his head out or Sumner will be looking to transfer. Stig is a class guy, that was a classless decision to make.

Thats what I am hoping will happen, but my hopes are guarded. I sound like the Ancient Mariner and I said a week ago when some one in my age bracket brought the 1963 Nebraska game, where we were helplessly out maned and lost 58-7, but went on to swipe the NCC and won 8 straight games. There were no playoffs in those days, but we had one of the best seasons in history 9 wins and one loss. This can happen again.

One last comment about the last 9 quarters, and a number of games that still cause me pain from last year. If Stig thinks that the momentum gained by this program in the last several years can't be lost he and the administration need to look down south. Many of us remember when USD was the FB school in the state. They filled the stands and were going places, playing for championships and competing with NDSU year after year. Today, after a number of less then hard working teams USD can't get 9,000 fans to show up and watch a home game against last years national champion. At halftime their student section is empty because the students want to spend more time in the bars and less time cheering for their football program. SDSU suffered through years of mediocrity under Wayne before Fred brought in Mike Daly who began turning the program into a winner with solid, hard working players who showed up every week. Last year we saw a few games where the team just didn't come to play, this year we have definitely headed the wrong direction after a solid first 3 quarters to the year. Something is wrong, and as head coach Stig needs to figure it out. The momentum can be lost. Many of us will continue to give money and continue to be passionate about all things SDSU. Not everyone else will see it the way we do. It may take a few years but lackluster performance after lackluster performance is not going to draw the casual fan, or keep the students engaged. If it starts with a new starting QB so be it. Personally I would prefer to lose after making changes then to, week after week keep beating our heads against the wall knowing what the outcome will be.

I'm off my soapbox, the sun is out and it is just a game.
