I count 12 LBs which (at this point in time) is probably not excessive for a 3-4 system. Minnesota's carrying 9, which is 3 deep for a 4-3. And I'm thinking that Batten's experience as a DE in college gives him a bit of an advantage as an OLB on a 3-4.
That's a long story without hardly a mention of his name. Good luck to him and I hope he's able to make the team. Luckily he was drafted and not an undrafted free agent, which will help his chances to stay on the team.

Bears win!!! Batten had a good game though 3 tackles and two sacks according to the box score.
I watched the game and he was all over the field and was in on at least 5-6 tackles and it was reported that he had 2 sacks and 2 QB hurries.
The Bills also released former 1st round draft pick Aaron Maybin. Maybin was ahead of Danny in the depth chart so this should open up even more playing time. I don't doubt that Danny's performance against the Bears made it an easier decision to release Maybin who has been a bust.

Agreed Mitchell.
Maybin's release was not a coincidence after Danny's performance.
I think he's going to make the team, and play. Maybe not start, but 3rd or 4th OLB, situational pass rusher.
Well we all KNEW that! Good for Batten! You knew if he was going to get a chance he was going to go at it a 100%. I don't think he has any other speed than full tilt.
Batten should get some good playing time Saturday against Denver with Shawne Merriman sitting out the game to rest his knee http://tinyurl.com/44msvt7
Batten is listed third on the depth chart at JLB behind Merriman so hopefully he sees even more time. On a note of irony he is listed as JLB which stands for Jack Linebacker.
anybody heard anything on Batten? A Bills blog seemed to think he was a cinch in this post on the projected 53 from a couple days ago:
Sam Linebacker Chris Kelsay, Danny Batten
Chris Kelsay is out of position playing in the two-point stance at outside linebacker, but he can still rush the passer. Danny Batten has been playing well this preseason and has a chance to unseat Kelsay as the starting outside 'backer in due time.
