Negative, but I do have a three minute video of the team waiting to take the field between fanfare and the intro video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-ktSNBz-4M. The band has been practicing the new fanfare for the past few weeks and I wasn't sure what the fans would make of it. Needless to say, I thought it kind of sucked.

That was painful to watch. Take the field already...

At 18 seconds in you could see them die down. Got fired up again about the 1 minute mark and died out again.

          Re: Intro Video

Missed the part when the band marches in with drum line cadence and then playing "Ring the Bells" under the stadium. All in all, thought the pregame really sucked and sucked what little life there was out of the crowd and players. Keep it tight and high energy. Way too long and awkward.

Why not keep them in the Dykehouse Center with the doors closed and then when the intro video is done, open the doors and they run out? I don't see how that is so hard

                Re: Intro Video

I think what's missing in these changes is a sense of the history of the university. We need traditions that build on that. While I applaud the effort to do something new, I think it could be done differently and in a way that fits what I've seen attending SDSU football games for 40 years.

Here's my sense of the pregame, starting with the band's show.

End the band's show with the Yellow and Blue (certainly a tradition), saving Ring the Bells for the team's emergence.

Keep the team in the Dykhouse Center. Assign a GA (with Stig's permission) to hold them in there until their cue. Stig could tell the captains to obey that person's orders, an they would.

How about something dramatic? Get an actual bell that you can mount on a platform outside of the door of the Dykhouse a few feet onto the grass. After the Yellow and Blue (at a time point the crowd could anticipate, i.e. 5 minutes or something before kickoff, have a single Army or Air Force ROTC member (another tradition at SDSU) emerge from the Dykhouse Center, march deliberately to the bell, salute the flag and ring the thing three times, slowly, like the beginning of the video. (You could ring the bell for the second half, too, maybe with the game sponsor or some other donor doing the honors).

Then run the video with a new song that will pump up the crowd. (For the second half, just play the fight song after the bell.)

Wait a few seconds after the end of the video (where the guy says to get on your feet for the Jackrabbits) to build a little tension in the place. Bring out Jack Rabbit first (crowd would like that), then out comes the team led by the cheerleaders with the flags. The band plays the fight song.

You could brand the platform with the bell on it each game with the game sponsor's logo or something.

                Other suggestions?
                Holy nutmeg!

I like the bell idea, and like the idea of an ROTC member ringing it, at least for one home game per season, maybe military appreciation day.

Another twist on the bell idea would be to have some dignitary or other VIP ring the bell. Last Saturday, Casey Hillman could ring the bell. At Hobo Day, the governor rings the bell.

I'm not sure if a bell platform would fit between the north endzone and the field. One thing that really bothers me about the Dykhouse is how close it is to the field, eliminating even the possibility of seating in that endzone.

Good ideas. As for space, I suppose the bell could be mounted on some kind of cart and pulled off to the corner of the endzone during the game.

                      Re: Intro Video

Great ideas...that need to get to someone in the Athletic Department to start considering.

As for holding the team in the Dykhouse Center. I got a tour Saturday morning (thanks Rob Peterson) and the entry onto the field is not very condusive to a mass entrance onto the field. It's a double door with a post in the middle and the hallway leading out isn't big enough to hold the whole team. That's why I suggested a tunnel of some sort. Then most of the team is out and the remaining can filter into the hallway.

I love the bell idea. BUT, what if we got a CANNON. I LOVE cannon's going off at football games!!!!!! <sarcasm/>

It's early, we have a new facility. The game day atmosphere will get figured out. Just hope that the fans haven't checked out by that time.

I've been asking for that damn giant cowbell for a couple years now. I also think it could be rung in the tailgate, maybe even do some fundraising. I'd shell out $5 to give it a gong! Or pay to let my kids do it.
With fans like this who needs enemas.....

Cannons are cool, too. No reason why they couldn't do both. Bell to intro the video, cannon to welcome the team onto the field.

I didn't realize there was a post in that door. That does complicate things. What they needed there was a garage door.

I like the idea of ringing a big bell to get things started, too. But have some great ex-players ring it. Jim Langer, Wayne Rasmussen. Adam Timmerman. Josh Ranek. Steve Heiden. Lynn Boden. Adam Vientieri (after he retires). Etc. There are a lot of prospects, and more in the making.

With the asthetics of the south side of the building though, I don't think a garage door would fit. They will figure it out. Again, personally I feel like some sort of tunnel to walk through would make a good entrance.

Great example in this article http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5452951
