Thielbar only picted 2/3rds of an inning last night and he walked two guys but got out of it and picked up the win. He is now 2-1 on the season with his 0.64 era with 28 innings pitched.

Crazy if you happened to see this last night vs. the Rays. Summary from La Velle E. Neal III at the Strib:

      1. RIPPING OFF ATTEBERRY: Caleb Thielbar entered the game with no outs and runners on first and second. Ben Zobrist tried to bunt but popped out into a double play. With James Loney batting, Thielbar picked David DeJesus off first base to end the inning. Thielbar officially faced one batter - and got three outs. According to KTWIN's Kris Atteberry, it's just the 25th time in MLB history that has happened. Thielbar threw three pitches. Wonder if he had to ice after the game?

Caleb Thielbar's season total with the Twins

          W-3
          L-2
          ERA 1.76
          49 Games
          46 IP
          24 H
          11 R
          9 ER
          4 HR
          14 BB
          39 K's
          .154 BA
          .83 WHIP

Thielbar said he won't be playing winter ball this year, which is somewhat surprising because he didn't throw a ton of innings, but he said that the AFL threw off his off-season workouts last year.

He had a solid season, faded a bit down the stretch but its hard to keep up with the pace he started.

Baring an injury or a real setback he will star with the Twins next season and hopefully keep up the good work

Innings don't matter, look at appearances compared to last year

That is true, but the way some made it sound, the Twins would not have minded if he had pitched winter ball, but he felt pitching in the Arizona Fall League last year was a reason he struggled in Spring Training.

At the Minnesota Diamond Awards, Caleb was presented the Bill Boni Award, which is given to the Twins Most Outstanding Rookie. Congrats Caleb.

So proud of Caleb and so pleased he is going to make Brookings his off-work home. He's got a ton of friends and fans here. The Boni Award is awesome recognition for him. With some strong starting pitchers added to the Twins lineup, here's hoping to a great season this coming year.

saw this on espn for spring out look for the twins.

Due for a worse year: Reliever Caleb Thielbar allowed just 24 hits in 49 innings while posting a 1.76 ERA -- part of a good Twins bullpen that ranked fifth in the AL in ERA. With closer Glen Perkins having a dominant season, the Twins were 55-1 when leading after the eighth inning. Thielbar (the first major leaguer from South Dakota since Vean Gregg a hundred years ago) is a lefty without big-time stuff who throws a lot of fastballs up in the strike zone, so you have to wonder about a repeat performance. Perkins should be very good again, but it will difficult for the Twins to match that ninth-inning performance.

The first major leaguer from SD in a hundred years? Is that referring to pitchers only?

Carroll Hardy, from Sturgis, played in the late 50's and early 60's. I think I read someplace that he has the distinction of being the only player to ever pinch hit for Ted Williams.

Dick Green from Rapid City played for the A's, KC & Oakland. Did Sparky Anderson ever log time in the majors?

Terry Francota was born in Aberdeen when his dad, Tito, played there. Great triva question!
