Has independent physicians we see patients from Avera, Sanford, MeritCare, Medicare, BC/BS, etc....

    From OI's website:

Orthopedic Institute, an independent physician group specializing in orthopedics, was founded in 1972 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The group has steadily grown in size and scope, today with 13 physicians and over 150 employees. An important milestone in OI's growth was the new building, completed in 2001.

Today, Orthopedic Institute is the largest orthopedic specialty group in the region. In addition to general orthopedics, areas of focus include the Spine Center, Sports Medicine Center, Lower Extremity Center, Joint Center and the Upper Extremity Center. The group also specializes in joint replacement, foot and ankle and pediatrics, and offers physical medicine.

Orthopedic Institute Clinics are located in Brookings, Mitchell and Yankton, in addition to Sioux Falls. Outreach is provided by the physicians of Orthopedic Institute to Dell Rapids, Flandreau, Freeman, Huron, Madison, and Vermillion, SD; Marshall, MN; and Rock Rapids, Rock Valley and Sibley, IA.

Thanks. I'd give rep but can't.

It's essentially the same concept as the Heart Hospital but slightly different. That is another can of worms that we will not open up though.

Well, I think the heart hospital is like 45%? owned by Avera. So that's a key difference.

Medcath is looking to sell its part of the Hearth hosp. so Avera will look to be the big tuna in that can.

Maybe I should have said North Central Heart then.

That can of worms is a difficult one to understand when you are on the outside looking in. When you are on the inside its pretty straightforward.

I guess my issue with is how soon its happening. Not even being in the state for a year they are getting big money. I will assume its money they expect to make back from ND. It feels like south dakotans paid money for health care that the hospital is spending in ND before they can even get fully established up there. At least IMO. Not saying its wrong, but seems a little quick in my book.

Looks noisy. Seriously. That looks like it's going to be a LOUD venue.

BTW: NDSU is an ag school. How come nobody ever made friends with the good folks at John Deere? Could slap a few dozen John Deere logos on the court and nobody'd even notice.

Remember, Merit Care had been there for years and years. It is not like Sanford just opened its first clinic in ND, they merged (well, officially) with a well established entity that had been working on these types of things long before the merger talks began.

I know, but its not Merit care that made the deal. It sounded like they were struggling a little bit. Not sure how much of that is true, but if they did not have the financial ability before, where did Merit side get the money from in such a short time.
