Iowa had a pretty successful basketball program for a number of years and will want to regain that as quickly as possible after the Lickliter debacle. I speculate the Iowa admin. will throw some money at the biggest name coach they can to try and drum up some support in the short term at least.
Bruce Pearl comes to mind. He was an Iowa assistant under Dr. Tom Davis.

It's not obvious that a move from Tennessee to Iowa is an upgrade.

If I recall correctly, Tennessee is usually #2 on the list of athletic department budgets. I don't remember who's #1 . . . probably Texas.

Yeah, Texas would be #1, followed closely by Ohio State. I am not positive where Tennessee falls, I would have to look it up but I am sure it is up there pretty high.

As for Bruce Pearl to Iowa, that is a possibility, but I think it may be a slim one. Again, all speculative. I have no idea what will happen.

Pearl makes $2.3 million at Tennessee and he has been to the sweet 16 three times in the past five years. Why leave for the basketball abyss that Iowa has become, if he keeps on winning he could get an elite coaching job in a few years.

Iowa is a middle of the pack job in the Big 10 at best.

I think that perhaps the chance to take a team back to prominence could play into it. The Big Ten, aside from Ohio State and Michigan State, is pretty weak. It wouldn't take long for a good recruiter like Pearl to put Iowa back in the running. Besides, compared to the SEC the Big 10 would be a breeze!

I think that if Iowa would offer similar money a guy would have to consider it.

But you have to consider the factor that Pearl wouldn't be able to paint himself orange and show up in the student section to cheer for the Lady Vols any more . . .

I will give you that. But one big upside is that he wouldn't have to hear that overly annoying "Rocky Top" anymore.

But, along those lines, perhaps he would like the opportunity to coach at a school where he isn't living in the shadow of the WBB coach.

                      I dunno, it's actually pretty catchy if you're rooting FOR the Vols/Lady Vols . . .
