Not necessarily a bad idea. Me thinks it's not the best idea to sell combo season tickets. Many people who buy season tickets probably wouldn't go to all men's and women's games. That would leave many games with a lot of empty seats. If they sell independently how do you determine who gets what seats? There will season ticket holders with tickets for the same seat.

Selling separate season tickets for men's and women's basketball would KILL women's attendance at SDSU. The athletic department may make more money that way though.

In other words,it's not a doubleheader. It's simply 2 games on the same day. Kinda defeats the purpose....

Not really. One thing driving attendance at SDSU is the fact that many people have to drive 1 hr + to the games. Makes it much easier to justify making the trip when you can watch two games on that trip. People have a chance to go grab a bite to eat in between games, etc.

How do you handle two season tickets holders with the same seats (assuming they sell separate season tickets for men and women)?

It would not be 2 tickets for the same seat. If you do not have the games back to back, it is not a "doubleheader" since there would be vacancy between the games and there would be another gate to enter for the second game of the day. The situation where someone would only buy one season ticket now rather than not buying tickets for the other seem to be small at this time. It may be that the women would have reduced sales compared to the men. However the attendance the women have now without doubleheaders would lead me to believe there would be interest at a similar level. The students are more likely to attend a men's game. I would be slightly surprised to see the ticket sales at SDSU split in the near term.

Re-read my post. I was asking jack power that question because his post makes it seem like he is advocating for night doubleheaders with the games played back to back.

In the short run(1-5 years), I do not think there will be 2 sets of tickets at SDSU. I know it is much more common than not that men and women tickets are seperate. Also there was a portion of the article that spoke about 2 games the same day that may not include the same school opponent. The mirror schedule was a change and the next scene proposed might still be a bigger change.

I'll use myself as an example:

                  1. I have a little over a 2 hr. drive,in good weather.
                  2. Not a strong womens BB fan

I would have to leave about 11:30 a.m. and probably get home about the same time that night. If you add in a wife and a couple of kids, you have a looong, expensive day. The decision would be simple for me, go up for the mens game only. Cost of tickets and food is less and i can be home most of the day and get something done....or not. I don't think i'm too much different than most, meaning i think this would hurt womens attendance.

Also,i don't know what they would do about season ticket holders for the 2 games.

I'm not a fan of doubleheaders in general but if i had to make a choice, yeah i would advocate back to back ones.

Why on earth would they consider having such a long time between games?
NDSU did that back when there was doubleheaders on Saturdays and it was a debacle. Eventually we went back to back to back doubleheaders because otherwise nobody watched the women play.

No the tickets are a package for the season.

I was under the impression from West River Jack's post that season tickets were sold separately. That was incorrect.

I agree with you that back to back ones are better since season tickets are sold as one package.

Now if they change the way they sell season tickets that would make having back to back games difficult. Not sure how they could address that.

Was just looking through some conferences, and thank goodness we got rid of Southern Utah.

The team is currently 0-25 and sitting at an RPI of 345 out of 349. Having them in the conference this year along with IUPUI would have likely dropped the conference ranking from 17th to the mid 20's.

We really need to get IUPUI to pick things up next year if the conference is going to make a push into the next tier.

Utah would be a tough state to field competitive DI teams.

                                Utah
                                Utah State
                                Utah Valley State
                                Southern Utah
                                BYU
                                Weber State

That's 6 DI's in a state with a population about half of Minnesota. And their border states have low populations too.
