  • Re: Summit League Regular Season Conference

I am ready for the games. SDSU ought to handle the vistors this week. The Fort Wayne gals took us to the wire at their place as Megan Waytashek tossed in the winning basket. I am guessing the last shot of the game will not be as important this week. Ft Wayne will need to go to Fargo to get a win this trip. The bison should handle the OU women as they are running low on experienced personnel.

The men's games at Ft Wayne and Rochester bring a high level of anxiety for both of the Dakota teams. Oakland is not the only team that could tip the Jacks or bison. This is a road trip to have the defensive game ready. Western Ill hosts the Mavs for a rematch. Thursday is the first test of the week to hold position.

Jackrabbit men need a win tomorrow. Can't look past IPFW. Get that win then onto OU where SDSU has never won a men's game. A win there and things are set up for the home game with WIU on the 16th as a chance to all but secure a #1 or #2 seed. Just booked a hotel room for that night. Should be an epic battle for the top of the Summit league.

A loss in either of these road games and it is likely to come down to a tiebreaker. I assume head-to-head is the first criteria, not sure what follows after that.

        From the Summit website:

        Tiebreaker Procedures
Tiebreaker procedures shall be used ONLY to determine seeds for the League tournament. Regular season standings shall stand.

If there are multiple ties, the ties shall be broken in descending order. (i.e., a tie at the #1 position will be broken before any others).
Once a tie is broken using the procedures below, it shall remain broken for purposes of all future comparisons.
Two-team Tiebreaking Criteria. The following criteria should be applied (in order) to break ties between two teams:

Results of head-to-head competition between the two tied teams.
Comparison of each tied team's record against the team occupying the highest position in the standings continuing down through the standings until a team gains an advantage.
When arriving at another group of tied teams while comparing records, use each team's record against the collective tied teams as a group (prior to that group's own tie-breaking procedure) rather than the performance against individual tied teams.
If a tie still cannot be broken after applying criteria (1), (2) and (3), it will be broken by comparing each tied team's RPI (based upon the RPIratings.com Report issued on the morning following the last regular season League game).
Results of each tied team's collective record against the other teams tied for the same position.
If multiple ties still remain, then each tied team's record shall be compared to the team or group (if 2 or more are tied) occupying the highest position in the standings continuing down through the standings until a team gains an advantage.
If the above results in two teams remaining, the two-team tiebreaker is used.
If a tie involving three or more teams still cannot be broken after applying criteria (1) and (2), it will be broken by comparing each tied team's RPI (based upon the RPIratings.com Report issued on the morning following the last regular season League game.)

Multiple-Team Tiebreaking Criteria. The following criteria should be applied to break ties between more than two teams:

Should be interesting to see how much Ryan Bass plays, sounds like he has some kind of knee injury and likely won't start. He played very well against the Bison in Fargo.

The OU vs xDSU schools have huge implications for the top seeds. If one wins while the other loses the winner has the clear inside track to a top seed. With Braun's injury and looking at match-ups I think SDSU has the edge. Jacks need to beat IPFW tomorrow night and hope for a hard fought OU victory over NDSU.

The tiebreaker rewards teams for winning against higher ranked teams and punishes less for bad losses. That said, the loss to USD could really hurt SDSU if USD finishes higher in the standings. So, keep cheering against the Bison and the coyotes, shouldn't be hard to do.

Bass did have limited time in the Omaha game. He was a good defender on Nate in the game at Brookings. He is not a go to guy on the offense. It has appeared more of the OU reserves are getting some minutes Other than his defense, there should not be a big drop by the Griz.

Well he did play very well in Fargo(he was their leading scorer) so that could be skewing things, that said the nature of NDSU's defense takes away Petros and puts more pressure on their guards to score.

He does avg 8.7 pts. He is more a spark normally for defense. The OU fans always wonder which night he will make his shots. He also brings 2.7 asssits with his 25 minutes. The home court for OU will take some of that pressure off since they also seem to win many games at home(ask WIU). Williams and Mondy will need to fill the spot for scoring.

Oh shucks, they have yellow and blue colors just like us. It will be shame to loose them.

The WAC would hugely increase their chance to finish in the top half of the conference.
