Ayinger and Spaten are both on tap at Old Chicago in SF. Also available at Fogies in SF. JackMD the best ales in SD are homebrew in bottles in my basement, IMO (not humble at all about that). Slosho, I will most certainly be at the game Sat, after trying some of Heist Brewing's output at Cubbies during pre-game.

My son has met them. Says they are good folk. Hoping they get their place going soon. Fermentation is a gift from God.

No Ayinger at 26th & Marion HyVee. I searched long and hard. So I picked up some Spaten and Shiner. I'm really intrigued by the high praise for the Ayinger. I'm going to have to roam over to 37th & Minnesota.

WOW really? They usually have some Ayinger brews there. or were you speaking about the Oktoberfest beer specifically?

Have you at Fogies, 57th & Marion Rd? They had Ayinger week before last. Otherwise stop at Old Chicago. It is on tap there. Okto, unfortunately is not

Alright, so I had a small buffet of Octoberfest beers this weekend. I went to 37th & Minnesota HyVee and they have about 500 bottles of Ayinger Octo and 26th & Marion has none???

So I had Shells, Ayinger, Spaten and Shiner. And I'll rank them in that order. The Ayinger was very good and I would put it right there at 1A with the Shells. The Shells seems a touch, just a touch, darker with a little more flavor. And I just really like the flavor of Shells. The Spaten was decent, but not at the same level of the other two. The Shiner is way below the other three. I'd probably take Leinie's over the Shiner.

Talking beer. Love it. Leaves a nice taste in my mouth unlike the football team.

I'm on call, I don't get home from work until 5 pm tomorrow and now I'm thinking about an ice cold amber colored slightly malty and hoppy marzen style Oktoberfest lager. Damn.

I agree Whole heartedly with you assertion. Although I have yet to have the Shiner.
Had the Ayinger This last weekend @ old Chicago, and while it was really good I still prefer the Shell's for the reasons listed above. Go stock up while you can! I always do, and suggest you all do the same!

Oh and on the subject of Spotted Cow, I had some brought to me from WI, so I had one last night along with a Grain Belt Nordeast.

I stopped by the Hy-vee on 26th and Sycamore tonight to get a 6-pack of something. Holy cow! Talk about selection. The pick 6 area is huge as is their beer selection. I ended up going home with Goose Island 312 and a 6 pack of Shiner Holiday Cheer. I'm not sure if the Cheer was from last season or if it is being released already, but I enjoyed it too much last Christmas to care. I asked about Spotted Cow. The manager said he loved it when he was in Wisconsin and would check with his distributor about getting some. Since I'm friends with the distributor, I already know what he is going to say, but a little more pressure can't hurt.

IMO nothing beats Summit Oktoberfest. Good stuff.
