You won't see a lame parody video about another conference university on the big screen at any facility other than the campus at Vermillion. I promise you that. If you don't consider that classless and petty then there is no issue for you. My 8 and 11 year old girls looked at me with dismay when they saw the video, inquiring as to why USD would play it. I explained that tactfulness as it pertains to the rivalry is not one of USD's strong points. My girls understood completely.

I don't care if there is a single coyote fan in Frost Thursday. I don't want any part of the evening wasted on focusing on a rivalry that shouldn't need to be highlighted. Rivalries don't require promotion, in fact, its not really a rivalry if you have to promote it. There weren't more than 200 Bison fans in Frost Saturday and the home crowd was properly focused on the game.

We'll go over to the dome tomorrow night. Children of our friends play on both teams, watching them compete is enjoyable. If that means sitting through a tasteless attempt at humor at the expense of SDSU, I can handle that. Just don't try and defend the behavior. Its childish, brash and fully expected.

Prior to the yotes coming into D1, AJ spoke to a club and the rivalry question came up as the transition was about to begin for the yotes. He said that he was not at all interested in the rivalry that had been before since it was a crude and vulgar environment at the dome. We can hope that some light will begin to shine on the yotes sensible version of a rivalry including stopping things that should not see the light of day. Some children may not grow as fast as others reminds me of the TV commercial for aging cheese for a snack. The cheese is still a couple years ahead of the yotes.

Its all about someone ten years ago calling YE wife a c**t, that started it all. They called it payback with the video.

That video really was dumb. It didn't offend me, I just thought it was stupid. It felt like something you would see at a high school pep rally.

I was not at the men's game so I did not see the video. I'll bet, however, that the same video or a modified version is presented in conjunction with the women's game Wednesday.

I would really, really like to see this video.

You'd probably be dissapointed. It was silly, but I don't think it is worth the hype and hand wringing you see here. If I remember right, they basically photoshopped USD logos onto a bunch of SDSU landmarks and implied that USD was taking over Brookings. Cheesy but harmless.

                  Re: Testing the rivalry

I don't think there's been any hand wringing or hype. Those who saw it just noted it was dumb. The response was more like a roll of one's eyes and not anything to get upset about. It was worthy of discussion only because the institution itself saw fit to show what sounds like a production put together by a few guys having had a few beers and ten minutes. I suppose we could be charitable and simply say it was part of the "unique" game-day experience at USD. I have commented on what I heard about the video because I find it hard to believe that somebody down there is doing stuff down there that seems planned by a high school freshman. I'd prefer that the institution join D1 ranks in all respects.

One thing is certain, USD coaches and players are demonstrating they've joined D1. Tonight our women's team ought to be focused on getting a win in a tough venue. USD's women will be focused on getting a win and a share of the conference lead. I'll be focused on my radio.

"Cheesy but harmless." 2 adjectives that perfectly describe USD.

It was done in poor taste. Several USD supporters have suggested that their institution doesn't go out of its way to aggravate the juvenile and antagonistic aspect of the rivalry. I would argue the facts suggest otherwise and cited a specific incident. The video basically stated that all the progress on the SDSU campus is a mimic of what is already at USD and suggested that SDSU will forever be in pursuit of USD. In the proper environment it would have been humorous. In a public place with 2000 Jackrabbit fans present it was more like taunting than humor. Agree it was harmless and wasn't trying to make it seem like it was.

                        Re: Testing the rivalry

The facts are easier to read when we look at the current standings in the Summit and overall record. The yotes are behind and following(men & women). We could offer the notion that they are less than tolerant hosts when the Jackrabbits send a team to the dome and that would be supported by the less than professional pieces of entertainment on the big screen. The Jackrabbit teams are preparing for a basketball game to keep their place in the Summit race with a good solid basketball game. The women will stay in first place either way and the men will bring a game to Frost to get into first place. Hopefully, Friday morning will have all the yotes thinking how long their road might still be and how they can make the dome a more disrepectful place to visit.

Which is why I said it was something that would be shown at a high school pep-rally. Cheesy but harmless describes most of the the things done at HS pep rallys.

Would it be a cogent observation that the video boards upon which the offending video was shown were manufactured in Brookings, quite likely in the main by SDSU students and graduates?

                              Yeah, I know. You're welcome.

Those are dumb. I'm only offended by the lack of cleverness and terrible writing.

The difference with those videos, though, is that they are created by students.
