    Re: Cody Larson II....

Can we just wish Cody well at Florida and move on? He was offered a great opportunity and jumped at it. Surely that's understandable. I refuse to take offense when a South Dakota student athlete chooses to go to school in another state.

This is a thread begging for a lock. When we start discussing whether to include Sparky Anderson as a SD native, we have gone far enough.

Born here...therefore.... ;o) Sparky Anderson has similar story and he's "one of us". We claim Bob Barker as a South Dakotan (not born here). Anyhoo.....

Koobs at least comes back (Twins caravan) and (somewhat) embraces being a South Dakotan. Good guy.

Simply b/c of the last two jobs I've held I've met/known darn near every (the few there have been) local celebrity over the past 10+ years. Some of the criticisms are warranted and some are simply out of jealousy. Is it different other places? Do larger cities/states care as much about the kids who have gone on? Do we know more about these kids just b/c we are such a small state?

Good for SDSU for going after him. The men are doing a much better job of keeping kids in state like the women have done. Getting one kid who is a "high recruit" like Cody or Joe K can go a long way in making sure SDSU, or USD for that matter, gets EVERY kid that they want in the state to stay here to play.
I asked my "source" again and he changed his tune, said that Kansas wasn't after Cody. Still not certain about the schollie but I'm pretty sure Florida, like Ohio State, IU and KU, had at least one schollie left.

I think it's going to be a long time or at least an odd/isolated incident that will get a top 100 recruit like Cody or Joe to SDSU (or USD). I think Dykstra might be the highest rated kid either school will see in a long time, possibly ever. We have 5 fairly elite programs (Minny, Iowa, ISU, UNI, KU) with 6 hours of SF.

I heard recently, from a very reliable source, something to the contrary.

If what I heard is correct, then Stu is wrong and SDSU was very smart to "throw their hat in the ring" b/c SDSU actually offered to pay for his education. Florida, I believe, is one of the cheaper universities for out-of-state students.

I just don't get that comment. So a couple questions were asked about Cody Larson, how the he** does that make your comment relative?

You would do Cody a lot of good to tell Stu to stop "helping" him with those articles. I am rooting for Cody to suceed. Stu makes that harder to do when he writes dumbass articles like his blog entry. You'd have to agree with that assessment. Articles like the one Stu wrote only make people want to root against Cody. Someone who is on the fence or has no opinion on the matter are naturally going to root against Cody BECAUSE of Stu's article. That's what happens when you make a general insult to all South Dakotans when it only applies to a select few.

So I am way off base? Cody is on scholarship at Florida? All the schools reportedly interested in Cody were true? Just asking...

I will get into the "eating our own" when I have more time.

I've seen you write this twice now in regards to Cody Larson and I just don't see where you are coming from, nor do I see how this issue only pertains to the state of South Dakota.

There will always be supporters and haters of people who are in the spotlight, and this is prevalent everywhere, not just South Dakota. No matter how well you do something or how good of a person you are, there will be people who try to bring you down regardless.

That being said, in the case of Cody Larson, he hasn't exactly had a career that was free of turmoil, and there are a lot of unanswered questions about his past transgressions. Asking a simple question is not "eating one's own", but rather it is a person lacking the needed details that would help form an informed opinion of the kid.

I personally not only wish Cody well, but will be rooting for him to succeed at Florida (unless he is playing against SDSU of course). At the same time though, I can't blame people for being skeptical of the kid either, nor should every South Dakotan be expected to support the kid in his basketball endeavors, because that is an unrealistic expectation.

So was it wrong for SDSU fans to hope their was a chance Cody would come to SDSU? I think many felt after he decomitted from Iowa this would be a good situation for him. Aren't you the one who always comes on here preaching we don't need to look outside the region for talent and then when fans get their hopes up that maybe we could land another premiere recruit from the area and all you can do is mock and ridicule. I had heard early on that Florida was making a strong play and had posted as such. Not everyone on here understands how high Cody's ceiling is and how much he was coveted nationally and that it was probably unrealistic to expect he would committ to SDSU, but for you to insinuate that it was so far thetched that Cody might come to SDSU is arrogant. "In SD we eat our own" look in the mirror. I think most on this board and around the state genuinely hope Cody does well at Florida, but don't forget his latest problems were self induced. I guess SDSU is good enough for some of your players, but not others!

Because he has some questions? I know you have to defend your players, so maybe answering the questions for him will put it to rest as well? Or don't answer, I guess I really don't care.

EDIT: I am not trying to be a smart mouth. I just thought a few more facts might quell the swirl of the rumors.
