Re: Cody Larson II....
TeaJackrabbit: very nice jesture.
Goon: You say the media would be a good place to start, and I agree. Although I also find it ironic that there are several people on this board who have commented that if some members of the local media had any talent, they would not be here.
People come from, and go to, and stay at or away from all kinds of places for all kinds of reasons.

Re: Cody Larson II....
For the record, what I hear and posted from someone inside the Schooler's about Cody appears to be just a bunch of baloney. Not sure what their intent was. Jealousy maybe? Anyway, I have already apologized to Cadsev in private. I wanted to come on here and apologize as well. I learned my lesson and in the future will not make this mistake again.
To Cadsevs credit, instead of taking me to the woodshed in public (on here) he sent me a private message. That was nice of him.
I don't blame Cody in any way for choosing Florida or anyone else for that matter, even if it he had picked Mount Maty. When I ran a competetive team I always told my guys I would never be upset if they left and played for someone else, no matter what their reason. Same goes for Cody, and others. We have no idea why kids choose where they get their education. It would be darn hard to turn down KU, Michigan, Ohio St, Iowa, Florida, etc for SDSU. Imagine if it were you or your kid. Go get 'em Cody, make us proud!

But if you have a chance to play at Florida(2 recent NCAA Championships), or schools like Ohio St, New Mexico, Mich, Indiana, Wake Forest or Arizona St---it would be awfully tough to pass on that. He's going to play for a coach that has been to 3 National Championship games, winning 2---for everything that's happened to Cody lately, those are some nice options and very tough to pass on.

That is the mind set we should be having. As a state we want kids from here to do well, but damn it, why can they not be able to do well and sucsessful here. I feel thats what needs to change is the atitude and mind set.

But there is a small part of me that wishes I would have gone some place far away for college, just to try something new. I'm a pretty shy kid when I'm around people I don't know, so I think it would have been good for me to try something different. It's why I plan on studying abroad and backpacking in Europe after I graduate.
Anyways, I think there is something to be said for Cody going some place different and trying something new. And let's be honest, SEC > Summit. I applaud his choice. I wish I could have watched him for 2 years at SDSU but I can't, so I wish him the best.

The idea that Cody Larson or those before him must go out-of-state for the best possible experience should be expected to change. SDSU is now a DI program and should be considered a top option for local athletes who have the skills academically and athletically to play DI sports. We should actively pursue every athlete, especially those that some people consider "to good to stay in SD". If we hadn't contacted Cody Larson and said check us out, I would have been very disappointed.
Stu is irrelevant as it pertains to any of these discussions and in my opinion, life in general.

Re: Cody Larson II....
Stu is too predictable, too cliche, too hackneyed. Too much of a time-waster.
Pick up a good book and spend your time reading something worthwhile.

Good for SDSU for going after him. The men are doing a much better job of keeping kids in state like the women have done. Getting one kid who is a "high recruit" like Cody or Joe K can go a long way in making sure SDSU, or USD for that matter, gets EVERY kid that they want in the state to stay here to play.

I think it's going to be a long time or at least an odd/isolated incident that will get a top 100 recruit like Cody or Joe to SDSU (or USD). I think Dykstra might be the highest rated kid either school will see in a long time, possibly ever. We have 5 fairly elite programs (Minny, Iowa, ISU, UNI, KU) with 6 hours of SF.

I don't know how those recruiting lists work, but I would guess that if a kid signs with a major program, suddenly his status rises quite a bit. The better the school, the better his stock gets. Same with school interest. If a kid is getting looks from Kansas, Duke, Kentucky, and Arizona, he will magically become a top 100 recruit. Sort of like if you are seen at the movies with the hottest girl in school, suddenly you become more popular.
If we would have signed Cody when he was a sophomore or even a freshman (gasp!), he likely never would have become a top 100 recruit. And the SDSU haters would say Nagy couldn't recruit because Larson wasn't that highly rated by the scouting services (Fiegen, White, Horstman ring any bells?).
