  • Top prospects including Colton Iverson

Following filbert's suggestion, I thought I'd start a new thread for top prospects including Colton Iverson.

On the subject of Iverson, I'm going to remain optimistic and believe SDSU is still in the mix. He's attracted the attention of some big name schools and coaches but don't count out the Jackrabbits. Iverson would have a chance to play with a team that may grab all the headlines when it plays in its first Summit League Tourney in Sioux Falls in 2009...and wins it for a ticket to the big dance. Leading the way will be Kai Williams...Iverson should think about the opportunity to play with and develop with talent like Williams!

Go Jackrabbits! Best of luck to Iverson!

You are in la-la land if you think SDSU is still in the mix. We are going to be seeing Colton playing for one of the best progams in the country, unfortunatly SDSU isn't one of those.

Again, I'll just wait, listen, and hope. Colton wants to make a decision soon and I hope he is able to. It will make his senior season a lot more enjoyable. Looking forward to seeing several of his games this winter.

Until a prospect signs a LOI or verbals to a school, anything's possible. We don't need to get all of the good ones that will come out of S.D in the coming years. We just need to get enough of them.

Re: Top prospects including Colton Iverson

SDSU won't get the best SD HS prospect in 2008, however this year is not any fault of the coaching staff (nor were prior years). Colton blew up this summer after his first tournament during the open period in July. He has a ton of potential and his best hoop days are ahead of him. Unfortunately, SDSU isn't in the mix any longer but if things don't work out for Colton and his future decision that could change.

SDSU is getting the best prospects in the 2009 class and has a leg up on recruiting for the 2010 class. Here is my list:

              2008
Colton Iverson - Obviously the top prospect/recruit in the class. No one else compares in the class
Jordan Miller - On SDSU radar but no offers to give at the current time. May be one that slips by if no scholarships are available. Best days of basketball clearly ahead for this athlete.

              2009
Chad White - Great get for SDSU. Getting him early was key and he won't disappoint.
Tony Fiegen - Like White a great get early. Needs more strength but has a ton of potential.

              2010
Cody Larson - Primed for a monster Sophomore season. Those who doubted his ability based on his Freshman year will change their tune after this season. The word "special" has been used quite frequently to describe his talent.
Adol Aluong - Still needs to develop further but on track to be a solid prospect for SDSU and other DI schools.
Jared Bartling - Has good size but needs more strength and fundamental work. He works hard.
Derek Brown - On the SDSU radar. Has good blood lines.

              2011
Zach Horstman - Best incoming freshman in SD. Has potential but needs to continue to work on fundamentals.

              2012
Brady Maxwell - Has athletic ability and size to be considered a prospect for SDSU level down the road. Potential means nothing if undeveloped and he needs to continue to work hard.
Zach Kraning - 6'7" 8th grader will be one to follow down the road. Will see varsity minutes for Viborg this season.

Some of us do not follow SD High School basketball very closely so when we see the listed names here, we have no clue as to where these young fellows are going to high school. Some could be in driving distance of us and it would be great to get out and take a look at these kids. I for one know better than to question your list, I sure its one based on several hours of observations and working with these kids during the summer. Where are they from?

Would you believe I have no idea where Jordon Miller attends high school? Is he part of the Miller family in Mitchell that includes the NBA guy Mike? Maxwell and Zack Kraning? Absolutely clueless in terms of home towns.

                      Colton Iverson - Yankton

                      Tony Fiegen - Madison

Jared Bartling - Sioux Falls Roosevelt

                        Cadsev:
Thanks you very much. It looks like Roosvelt has some power coming this season with that much talent. Interesting to see a bloom developing in Viborg. That will be great for small town basketball fans. Overall it looks like we have some very good prospect to watch this coming year.

I personally think the big coaches coming to Yankton to see and talk with Colton Iverson should not be a reason to stop communicating with him. Until he signs, it would never hurt to let him know an offer is on the table. Dave Boots seems to have done this a great deal in his coaching career at USD, and as a result he gotten a transfers that have blostered his roster. I don't know if this will still work with USD going D1 or not, but often athletes and programs are not a perfect match and they often transfer to a program that was recruiting them prior to signing the letter of intent.

I found some of the schools for you and listed them behind the prospects. Some will have to be filled in by someone else.

Being that it's his junior year, I really hope he doesn't try and push it. Maybe get back in time for a few games before playoffs and then be ready for summerball. If he was a senior, I would imagine he would really push it to get back. Hopefully he doesn't reinjure it and doesn't have any major problems.
