If USD paid attention to the XDSUs, they will redshirt all of their recruits in Krogmans class so they have a chance to compete in the postseason the senior year. This may have helped lure Krogman to USD. Also the success the XDSUs had during transition will help the UXDs. When we first started this transition, there were so many unknowns and such fear by some that we would be the next Texas Pan-Am, but it went really smoothly. I don't think USD is as well prepared, but nonetheless we have indirectly helped their recruiting during the transition.

I have to say that this is a big suprise to me (assuming we had an offer out for him) that he chose to play at USD which is just heading into transition!

All of the things that we had to deal with in transition that made recruiting tough have definitely started to subside! Add that the conference tournament will be in Sioux Falls and SDSU becomes very attractive to any SD recruit!

That all said I'm assuming there wasn't an offer on the table for Mr. Krogman.

Does anyone have any other info?

I had heard Louie had it down to SDSU and USD he had an offer from USD and a preferred walk-on from SDSU.... From talking to people from WR his dad wanted him to go to SDSU (I think the whole AG college thing) But Louie is really good friends with Jordan Boots (usd's coaches kid) I also think the fact that SDSU recruited some good guards and retains some guards also effected the decision.

As far as offers I know SDSU had an offer on the table and pulled it before the start of his jr season. From my understandings louie had alot of mid-major attention his sophomore year but the fact that he never grew up (6-1) kept him from getting any offers.

That all would make sense to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy he is staying in state but the USD thing suprised me! If your education is getting paid for there then that is hard to beat!

          Best of luck to Louie!

Exactly as I understood it. Don't now too many USD fans from WR. Vermillion will be an adjustment for LK.

My comments are pure speculation but one advantage certain schools have with some athletes is the near certainty of playing time. A school in transition will play some great teams (and many poor ones) and a kid like Krogman wants as much playing time as possible and if the Coyotes can schedule a Kentucky or an Illinois, well, that's the kind of playing time some kids look for.

It might not matter that much to Krogeman what the transition status is of SDSU vs USD. Right now the Jacks program is way down and the Coyotes are looking up. SDSU is going to have to prove themselves as a program first before the big name recruits will choose to play there.

Krogman didn't prove himself and therefore he is playing at USD. A lot of players on the USD basketball teams are like that. Try to make it at a higher level, not offered, not able, fall back to USD. That can happen when your near the top of the bottom but not when your the bottom of the top. Catch my drift?

Example, USD's VB team this year. Near the top of the bottom thanks to transfers from a higher level program. USD was bottom of the bottom before that.

The discussion on the Husker radio network show this past Friday evening was that he attended the USC game and is very close (within days) to committing to Nebraska. The recruiting guru on the radio show was very, very high on him. I sure hope the "guru" is wrong about Nebraska and he ends up in Brookings.

The Nebraska camp is saying that he only opened his recruitment back up to Nebraska but when I talked to him he said he wanted to visit other area schools also.... Nebraska included but also Minnesota, Iowa State, Wisconsin and SDSU where the others..... When he went down to the Red-White game he was very unimpressed with Callahan and I don't know what would of changed his mind..... He also never pulled his verbal he just changed it from a hard to a soft.

Well, again a little mis-statement of facts.

You are correct in that SDSU has been/is down until we turn it around. But here's the thing, USD is looking over that same cliff that SDSU did five years ago and it's ugly down at the bottom of that pit. When we made the transition, SDSU was at the top of the NCC along with USD. How quickly things changed!

Will USD do better in transition? Who knows, they may very well do better. It's hard to imagine them having to deal with the laundry list of things that happened to Nagy and the team. No need to rehash that again.

I hope USD does have better success in transition! We had the same optimism that you do when we started the process. I'll just say this, it is GREAT to see light at the end of the tunnel. My fear is that when things don't go well what happens? If you don't gain conference affiliation and are stuck in purgatory for 8-9-10 years, what happens? I'm not saying that I think that will happen, but IT COULD if you don't get some of the breaks that SDSU did with the Gateway and Mid-Con.

Hey, Chief! Callahan is the football coach! Did you mean to say that or is there a correlation that needs more explanation.

Well obviously Callahan is the FB coach Super. I think you got your posts confused. JoeB was talking about Riley R. and I assume you thought he was still talking about Louie.

I think you want to know why he was unimpressed with Callahan.... This I will admit is not coming from Riley Reiff but is coming from people close to the situation.... When Riley went down to the red-white game nebraska treated him like he was no big deal he talked to red-shirt freshman and other recruits and they all said that callahan was garbage and that many of the red-shirts (freshman that red-shirted last year) where thinking about transferring.... The thing that makes me believe some of this is Riley is a BIG Nebraska fan and before he was ever recruited for football he always told everyone his goal in life was to play for nebraska and that if he had to walk on there he would do so. So for him even to soft verbal to Iowa makes me think that something wasn't right in the Nebraska camp... Its not like there is much going for any of the local camps (Nebraska, Iowa, ISU, Minnesota) Wyoming is having a pretty good year but thats about it for D-IA programs.
