I've been told its because rent in Brookings is so ridiculous. I know that the difference in similiar apartments from Mankato to Brookings is about $100 difference and Marshall to Brookings about $200 different. The city council is forming a task force to try and get ahead of the housing/apartment crunch here in town.

Higher cost of living would mean a higher coa? If so, awesome. High Scool kids are going to compare what they can get from each university. Ours will be more. Tougher to raise that money, but could be beneficial.

Tuition and fees and direct school related stuff are included in the current scholarship awards. FCOA refers to the added dollars to go towards other living expenses such as clothing, vehicle, entertainment, etc.

Meanwhile, there is everyone else in FCS that is sitting on their hands evaluating the situation or believing there is no way they can afford the COA. It might be a bit early to think that all the blue chip players for the FCS will fit into Vermillion and Fargo next year. Is there information out there that says all the P5 schools and FBS schools are on board with plans?
UND has also said they're going to offer FCOA to all athletes. The P5 schools voted as a group to offer FCOA and i believe the other FBS schools are deciding on a individual basis.

you hit the nail on the head! But when the university comes out with their COA it pertains to ALL prospective students. Financial aid and student loans are also calculated from this number. The P5 schools are already raising questions about how their COA could all of a sudden rise(some as much as 40%) after this new stipend came out..........yes just as ringthebells stated....so they could pay more than the other schools.

I guess this is one way NDSU will pay for their COA for all student athletes.

An abrupt increase in student fees seems to be the manner for financing these ambitious COA programs. Has not SDSU fees increased for other things than COA, and perhaps this is why COA has not been discussed much by SDSU admin? Another increase just might cause a revolution? Makes you wonder.

Wasn't there something with the bor that we couldn't increase student fees to cover athletics or something to that effect? And if so do is it still in effect?

No they later threw that one away in order to accommodate USD for something. We could do the same thing as NDSU. We don't have 5 NC to feed the student outrage.

I like the idea of student's getting priority points for the future based on the fees they pay while they're in school. Good way to keep them coming back.

I wouldn't argue that it is a good gimmick, while in reality it is really a minor amount of priority points. Agree, it sounds great if the student takes it at face value.

Fargodome is capped at 12,000 season tickets. These points will do these kids 0 good. The Bison will have a few down years at 8-3 or 7-4 and priority points will not be necessary for season tickets.

Today I learned NDSU only sells season tickets for football.

Priority points for students is an AWESOME idea. It gets them into and helps them understand the system, will entice future contributions, and makes it much easier to market to them after graduation. If you disagree, the credit card offers I receive weekly offering a small amount of points would like to have a word with you. Small incentives work.
