It's up the NCAA. No power 5 conference schools will have any pull. If they did why would they have chosen Dayton out of all places to host the First Four? I'm thinking Sioux Falls has a legit shot at getting this bid. They are already hosting some D2 championships in the near future. The NCAA recognizes how well Sioux Falls has supported the Summit League Tournament. The SFSA has been quoted that they are willing to do whatever it takes to get this bid. Having the Wichita State vs. Memphis game at the Pentagon and being televised on ESPN shows the NCAA that Sioux Falls can handle big time events.

The bold seems like a bit of an oxymoron?

Dayton's arena was at 94% capacity last year, which means about 1,000 more people than the new events center can hold. To answer your question regarding why Dayton was chosen, its the NCAA we're dealing with so the answer is simple: money.

With what the SFSA has done since their founding, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they can get the bid. But its not like they are up against Tulsa for the Summit League Tournament. Dayton has done an extremely nice job from the sounds of it.

IMO, the NCAA will wait to see how the Summit does in the new facility before taking a bigger bet on Sioux Falls.

The Dayton arena is dated and not in a great part of town. The city has lost several major employers and is struggling to say the least. I doubt they are in a position to make any kind of significant offer to keep the First Four.

All the more reason why they'll fight to keep 4.5 million in economic impact to the city comming in,don't you think?

I see what your saying though,it'll be hard for them to come up with the money to top Sioux Falls, although,we have to find the money also.I'm hoping we can wrestle the bid away anyhow.

I always wonder when I hear these reports saying you know we might move it to here, but there is a good chance it stays as well. Similar to the 2016 amateur baseball tournament, last week they were talking about how it was still open and Yankton and Sioux Falls and maybe other towns were bidding it, and a week later it went back to Mitchell, because they upped the offer.

Ultimately I'd be shocked if they moved it out of Dayton, at least this go around, this seems more like the watch out, improve your bid, your not the only game in town type of report then the its actually really close report.

Just my view, I hope Sioux Falls gets it, it would be good for the community

NCAA headquarters is in Indianapolis. Dayton is a little over a hundred miles away. Center of the country more or less sports wise. Especially basketball.

Re: Will the Big Dance be coming to Sioux Falls????

Our friend Matt Norlander isn't a fan of the First Four coming to Sioux Falls.

                      https://twitter.com/MattNorlander/st...90446270984192

Actual article was written by Gary Parrish
                      http://www.cbssports.com/collegebask...permanent-host

IMO Parrish makes no valid arguments in his article. Parrish stated in the article that he doesn't think there can be another community that embraces the First Four like Dayton does. Has he not seen the growth of the Summit League Tournament since it moved to SF? Norlanders biggest negative is that he doesn't think the media coverage will be that great because it's South Dakota. I think media will come regardless where it is. It's the NCAA Basketball Tournament! People want coverage of it no matter where it is. There is no doubt in my mind that Sioux Falls can embrace the First Four like Dayton has and maybe even surpass it because of the Premier Center and the connections with Daktronics.

Yes well, if tradition is to be so revered and sought after, why then has it been trampled into the ground if that's the case? Great traditional conferences re-aligned and unrecognizable any more, taking with it great college rivalry games steeped in tradition.

I'll tell you why ,progress, nothing stands in the way of progress it seems. To be all caught up in the silly notion of tradition now days seems interestingly quaint, refreshingly naïve. A CBS Sports guy,Parrish should know it's all about money. What's up with this false bravado now about tradition all of a sudden. Where was the outrage as tradition was cast aside in favor of progress before? I'm not buying it. It all sounds more geographical to me.

I do love all the tradition associated with the CWS in Omaha through, easy driving distance, in the middle of nowhere by East coast standards.....wink, wink.

He's not arguing tradition and how can it possibly be tradition after only two years? He's saying it would be hard to find a place that supports a four-game, two-day tournament like Dayton has for the last couple of years. Hard to argue with that. Games there outdrew some later-round games elsewere inthis year's tournament. Same economic/attendance argument Sioux Falls uses to host Summit Tournament.

If you watched the city of Dayton presentation video that was embedded along with the article, you'll hear the word tradition used quite extensively. Since the two are intertwined with one another, the article and the video, I figured he was pushing tradition as a selling point. It's his article he should know what's contained in it and so he must agree with it, or state otherwise his disagreement, right? Using this logic, am I not right to assume he was in agreement with the "tradition" thyme being used in the video.

I did go back and review the video, "tradition" was used only once, but it was the lead off statement in the video, so where the word "tradition " is placed in the video has it engrained in your mind throughout the entire video presentation. Good marketing I suppose. Very impressive video presentation over all

Maybe it is just my own personal prejudice showing, but I dislike anytime the word "tradition" is used as a selling point after it's been trampled into the ground the last few years.
